Today we’re turning 150! 🎉 And some of our well-known alumni have been sharing some of their fondest memories of their time as students...🥳

From our first lecture in 1876 to the discoveries, ideas and people shaping the world today, it’s been an extraordinary journey. A big thank you to our students, staff, alumni and partners, who have made the University what it is today and those who will continue to help shape the next 150 years!

How much do we know about our earliest Bristol students? Well, you might be surprised 👀

Winifred and Samuel both studied at University College Bristol, nearly two decades before it became the University of Bristol. They were scholars, physicists and even led the Debating Society together.

Thanks to this curious album kept in our Special Collections, archivists like Rachael Gardner have been able to piece together what student life might have been like back in the 1890s — spanning from their student days all the way to their wedding 💍

Getting your steps in across campus before Black to the Trails® | A Carnival of Trail Running this weekend? 👟✨

With 3 days to go until the UK’s most ethnically diverse off-road running event comes to Bristol, there’s still time to get involved if you aren’t already ➡️

Black to the Trails from Black Trail Runners will take place at Blaise Castle Estate for its first south-west event, with 1km, 5km and 10km races, alongside DJs, food and a festival atmosphere this Sunday 11 October ➡️

No trail running shoes? No problem! In partnership with adidas TERREX, different sizes will be available for you to try out for your distance at Black to the Trails - whether you’re running, walking, skipping or dancing your way around ➡️

Join us in celebrating our fun, inclusive and diverse community - both on campus and across the city - the trails are for everyone!

Professor Marc Holderied's work began when he spotted an unusually furry moth in Costa Rica and wondered... was there more to it than met the eye?🦋👀

He started to explore how moths avoid being detected by bats and discovered the extraordinary structures of their sound-absorbing wings 🔊

That discovery is now helping inspire new materials designed to control noise in the real world 🌍

In the first episode of The Story Behind, we follow Marc from the biology that started it all, through the experiments and prototypes, to how this research could help shape quieter, healthier spaces 👇

Did you catch one of our staff on The One Show with Tom Cruise last night? 👀

University of Bristol Senior Facilities Manager Lloyd Kembrey was recognised on last night’s BBC's The One Show for his incredible fundraising work for children's hospice charity Jessie May.

Lloyd thought he was heading to London for an interview about endurance fundraising. Instead, he was surprised by Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise, who personally thanked him for his efforts and invited him to a film premiere.

Lloyd has completed around 50 fundraising challenges over the years and has helped raise thousands for Jessie May, a charity that is especially close to his heart.

Congratulations, Lloyd, on this well-deserved recognition and for the difference you've made to so many families 👏

Got any leftover garden apples? Turn them into something special at Apple Day! 🍏

Join us at the University of Bristol Botanic Garden on Sunday 4 October for Apple Day, a community celebration of sustainability and local c***r-making.

Bring along apples from your garden, allotment or orchard, and you can receive:
🍎 Freshly pressed apple juice
🍺 A bottle of c***r from The C***r Box in 2027

There'll also be traditional fête games, Morris dancing, apple pressing demonstrations, and expert advice on making the most of your harvest.

Last year, the event saved 3,000kg of apples from going to waste. This year, we're hoping to give even more surplus fruit a new lease of life.

🎟️ Visitors who bring apples on the day will receive free entry to the Botanic Garden
