Congratulations to Shirin Alexander, she has recently had a new paper accepted in Langmuir:

Low Surface Energy Surfactants with Branched Hydrocarbon Architectures

The paper shows that very low surface energies/surface tensions can be obtained with certain architectures of branched hydrocarbon chain surfactants.

It is part of the G8 grant collaboration between Dr Sagiasaka and Professors Eastoe (Bristol) and Guittard (Nice, France).

This is Julian Eastoe’s 250th publication, in his 25-year career.

The paper reports on new surfactants, which give droplet microemulsions or lamellar phase dispersions in liquid CO2. It is part of the G8 grant collaboration between Dr Sagiasaka and Professors Eastoe (Bristol) and Guittard (Nice, France).

Congratulations to Dr Azmi Mohamed, ex-PhD student in the Bristol Surfactant Group, now Senior Lecturer in Chemistry, Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris, Malaysia.

Azmi has won a Gold Medal for his presentation to Malaysia Technology Expo 2013 (http://www.mte.org.my/2013/mte2013/).

The winning work was entitled ' Low cost hybrid CO2-philic surfactants for green solvents' and was based on our recent papers in Langmuir.

Here is what Azmi said about it:-

“I can't believe we won and I feel just like came back from the London Olympics!”.

Congratulations to Paul Brown, ex PhD student in the Bristol surfactants group, now Post-doc at MIT with Prof T. Alan Hatton: his new paper has just been accepted in Chemical Communications.

It is a collaboration with our Brazilian colleagues, including Rodrigo J de Oliveira who was a visiting student in Julian’s lab in 2011, and we are proud to have this joint publication with them.
