Bristol SEG Student Chapter The official page of the University of Bristol Society of Economic Geologists Student Chapter

The University of Bristol Society of Economic Geologists Student Chapter was founded in 2015 to complement the growing economic geology research group in the School of Earth Sciences. The UoB SEG aims to connect students, academics and industry professionals united by an interest in the geology of ore deposits. Each academic term the UoB SEG hosts a series of events aimed at raising the awareness

of all things ore-deposit related within the school, giving like-minded individuals the chance to exchange ideas and explore the geological world outside of the lecture theatre.

Dear all,

Please join us next Wednesday as our chapter welcomes Anne Thompson in the next instalment of this year's lecture series titled “The Bre-X fraud – impact on geoscience in exploration”.

The story of the Busang ‘Gold Deposit’ fraud unravelled exactly 25 years ago. Missing in the hype at the time were key geological observations. Anne will discuss her experience as a consultant working for Bre-X at a time when there were no processes for addressing concerns or reporting discrepancies, and how the events of that day changed the course of procedure in industry forever.

Anne will demonstrate how quality geoscience is critical to investor confidence and a responsible mining industry, and how we can integrate this in our own practises as we venture into industry.

Don’t miss it - find us next Wednesday at 2pm in G7. There will be pizza too!
