Could your lighting design create an avoidable risk for someone with photosensitive epilepsy?

About 600,000 people in the UK have epilepsy, and up to 1 in 4,000 have photosensitive epilepsy (PSE), where flicker and high contrast patterns can trigger seizures. The Harding-equivalent approach is clear: keep flashing within 3 Hz and control luminance change, and remember that 50 Hz mains and poorly driven LEDs can still fall in the sensitive zone.

At 299 Lighting, we help teams specify low flicker performance, use DALI or 0-10V dimming (not phase-cut), and document results for O&M.

What another great morning at Rocket Padel in Bristol! 🎾

The good thing about things quietening down over August while lots of people are on holiday, is that all of our attendees got a good amount of time with the coach. Today’s session was a more tailored approach. As individuals got to focus on specific elements they want to improve on.

As always, we of course still finished our morning with some networking over some well-earned pastries and coffees.

The Beecroft Building at Oxford University is the kind of project that stays with us 🔦✨

Architectural feature lighting in a world-class university setting asks everything of a specification: technical precision, visual drama and a real commitment to getting every detail right.

The Beecroft is a physics building, so the lighting had to respond to the scientific precision of the architecture and the grandeur of a space designed to inspire 🧪🏛️
