Bristol School of Art: our story continues
For generations, Bristol School of Art has been part of Bristol’s creative life. Queens Road has been one of our homes for more than 30 years, a place where thousands of students and staff have learned, created and made lasting connections.
Last week, we spoke directly with our students and colleagues to share the news that our current tenancy at Queens Road will come to an end in summer 2028.
Today, the has announced that, as part of its wider plans for Queens Road, Boomsatsuma has been selected as its future education provider at the site from summer 2028.
We know this will raise questions about what comes next for Bristol School of Art.
Bristol School of Art is operated by and proudly part of SGS College the largest provider of creative further education in the region. Bristol School of Art will continue to be operated by SGS and remain part of SGS as we shape its next chapter.
We are continuing to explore options for a new home in Bristol that is accessible and sustainable, provides the right environment and specialist facilities for high-quality creative education, and gives our curriculum the opportunity to develop and grow for future generations.
David Withey, Principal and CEO of SGS College, said: “Bristol School of Art has a long and important history within the creative education landscape of Bristol and the wider West of England. SGS is proud of our stewardship of this prestigious institution and the contribution we make to creative education across the region”.
There are still two full academic years ahead at Queens Road, with teaching, exhibitions, shows, events and the wider creative life of the campus continuing throughout 2026/27 and 2027/28.
We are grateful to the RWA for more than three decades of working together at Queens Road and for the part that relationship has played in the lives of generations of our students, staff and artists.
Queens Road will always be part of our story. Bristol School of Art has always been shaped by its people, its creativity and its community, and we will carry all of that with us as we shape what comes next in Bristol.
