*****AGM*****
Yeeeeeeeeew!!!! 🏄♂️🏄♂️🏄♂️
Hope you’re all enjoying the holidays and hope those that joined us in Portugal have recovered (I haven’t)! It’s that time of year where we elect our new committee at the AGM. It will be held on Wednesday 19th April (first Wednesday after Easter) in the Stephenson Room in the Richmond Building 6-8pm. Here is an outline of the roles available:
President and Vice President:
In charge of running committee meetings and delegating tasks among committee members. Must be dedicated to Surf and be prepared to solve problems that appear throughout the year.
Social Secs (x2):
Organise and advertise weekly socials with themes and set up surf Sunday meet ups. Plan winter and summer formals. Organise socials for weekend trips and abroad trip. Needs to be welcoming and chatty and able to attend socials.
Beginners Reps (x2):
Have a positive and encouraging attitude to any new beginners. Be confident to teach a land and water lesson as well as prioritising safety when in the sea. i.e., give a good safety briefing and be able to rescue individuals from danger. Try to get the best price possible when booking coaches and hostels and maintaining a good relationship with them.
Kit Reps (x2):
- Organising required kit for trips, and liaising with surf schools for price negotiation and hire
- Liaising with keen surfers who want to borrow kit (includes an advanced version of where’s wally with the container key)
- Maintaining and repairing kit (I know Ollie won’t be there, but 80% is using a hot glue gun)
- General organisation of the container (maintaining its Moroccan style interior)
- Deciding what new kit, the club needs (ideal for marketplace trawlers)
It’s all totally manageable if you know where the container key is and is a great role for anyone who wants to learn or develop board fixing skills as the container is full of random tools. Perks of the role include: easy access to all the clubs kit, getting to meet lots of surf club members through hire and choosing cool new kit!
Social media and merch rep:
You’ll be in charge of the Instagram, regularly posting photos and stories of the fun stuff we get up to throughout the year. You’ll also liaise with the other committee members to make well-being posts, reminders to get tickets and posts about socials and trips!
Media rep will involve creating merch for the rest of the society to wear. You have complete creative control, and you can decide what clothing brands, designs, and graphic designers to go for!
Trip Sec:
This role is great for a person with an eye for organisation and detail. You will be required to organise a weeks long surf trip somewhere abroad!! You need to be able to communicate well with people as you will be required to talk to surf companies, hostels and your fellow committee to arrange payments, transfers and all the little things.
The role is fun and exciting and most importantly requires someone who is enthusiastic and willing to give it their all.
Equality and Charity Officer:
This role ensures a welcoming and inclusive environment is maintained within the club. You will act as a well-being officer so you should be approachable, kind, and a friendly face around the society. You will also be involved in putting on charity events and similar activities in which organisation is an asset!
Treasurer:
- Oversee financial operations of the society
- Organise payments of invoices with hostels/suppliers and the SU
- Follow up and ensures payments are made in a timely manner
- Regularly check financial statements and balance sheets to ensure financial health of society and check for regular errors made by SU🤣
It’s a great role for anyone looking to support the society’s operations and experience in the organisation of finance. It is very manageable and requires less time than many of the roles however a fine attention to detail is needed to ensure no mistakes are made and that the society has adequate resources to run smoothly.
