This Friday - 27th March, we have our next guest speaker meeting being held at Unit 13. Lucy Wright is a Senior Research Associate in Planetary Science at the University of Bristol. Her research involves using spacecraft observations to investigate the atmosphere and climate of Saturn's largest moon, Titan.
It would be great to have a full room to greet one of our local students - doors open from around 6.45 to enjoy tea/coffee and a chat before the talk.
If you can't make it in person - Join Zoom Meeting

I spent last night chasing NGC 488 — Secret Deep No. 3. The wind was doing its best impression of a leaf blower, so many of my subframes wobbled off into the bin.

However as I finally got the galaxy behaving itself, a satellite came straight across the core like it was stepping up to the oche at the current Darts World Championship. Bullseye!

Of course I can just delete that one but it seemed best to leave it in the shot 🤣🎯

We have a new "Christmas Star" rising ever higher over our skies at the moment but don't get excited - it is VERY faint! Any "Three Kings" would need remarkable eyesight to spot this... It is also very ancient and it is ALSO an Alien. Seriously! This unusual object entered our Solar System from places far away and more ancient that our Sun around July and since then has been the subject of much science as it zips through and away from us.

Naturally internet speculation claims it's an alien landing craft etc - even Putin had to discuss this at his recent press conference!

It's believed to be a comet but nonetheless has a chemical make-up not fully typical of "our" comets. So as it heads away from us we might think of it as a Christmas Present to our Solar System. from the Universe...

Or else it's Santa - I know which one I 'm rooting for 🎅🏻

Just done some processing with Affinity photo of M81, also known as Bode's Galaxy. Happy with the results.
