Yesterday, we welcomed students, staff and external partners to our Freshers’ event! Students took part in a range of activities, from mini golfing to finger printing, and they even got the opportunity to speak to local service providers. Our Student Council and Progress Coaches were also there to showcase the wide variety of support available across the college. The Freshers’ event will take place again tomorrow afternoon.

After impressing his placement employer, global logistics company Bleckmann, Mohammed Kayani has been named as a regional finalist in the T Level Learner of the Year category of the National Apprenticeship and Skills Awards!

Mohammed recently achieved the Digital Support and Security (Cyber Security & Networking) T Level at BSDC, and is now continuing his journey with a degree apprenticeship at Bleckmann.

Congratulations to Elliott Washbourne, who has achieved a grade 4 in GCSE maths following his fourth resit! After working up from the Pathways course and into mainstream education, Elliott retook his maths GCSE alongside his Level 2 Computer Science course and will now progress onto our Level 3 Esports Management course while working to attain his English GCSE.

“I focused on maths this year. The teachers from Foundation Learning helped me understand that I needed to slow down a little bit and also write down what I’m doing. Next, I’m going to focus on my English GCSE and try to get that to a minimum of a pass.”

During his time at College, Zak Khan developed valuable life skills through Foundation Learning programmes, including CV writing, interview techniques and work experience at places such as Conkers and Rosliston Forestry Centre. He also took part in a Turing Scheme trip to Italy! After achieving a grade 4 in GCSE English, Zak is now progressing to a Level 1 Catering course.

"I'm relieved to have got a Grade 4 in English. My English teacher really helped me and his energy gave me the boost I needed. I enjoyed the Foundation Learning courses because I gained lots of life experience and life skills. I'm now moving on to Level 1 Catering. Cooking gives me the freedom to experiment and try new things. After that, I'm thinking about doing a supported internship."
