A group of Foundation Learning students are celebrating after their creative writing talent was recognised in the national Young Writers competition, with many of their original short stories selected for publication.

The competition gave students an excellent opportunity to showcase the creative writing skills they have been building in GCSE English, while also providing valuable preparation for their examinations.

Former Health and Social Care learner Tamryn returned today as a qualified nurse to deliver a clinical skills session for our current Level 2 learners.

During the session, learners developed practical skills in blood pressure monitoring, CPR, and patient observations. They also explored normal and abnormal observations, helping them recognise the early signs of patient deterioration and understand when interventions, such as oxygen therapy, may be required.

It was a fantastic opportunity for learners to gain hands-on experience and be inspired by a former student who is now working as a registered nurse.

We are pleased to be creating a new on-campus allotment and garden as part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability.

Developed following a successful staff capital bid, the project will provide fresh, seasonal produce for students while reducing food miles and lowering the College’s carbon footprint.

We’re incredibly proud of Max, who is currently studying on our BA (Hons) Creative Practice: Performing Arts course. Over the past six months, Max has been volunteering at the Derby City Mission community café, his commitment to both his studies and his community is truly inspiring. Congratulations, Max, and thank you for making such a positive difference!

Meet Max. 🌟

For the past six months, Max has been volunteering at our community café - and he has already made a huge impression on everyone he meets here.

As part of his performing arts course, Max was asked to raise funds linked to his studies. He chose to make and sell handcrafted key rings, inspired by the immersive theatre piece he'd done as part of his studies. Through his creativity and hard work, Max raised an incredible £130 -which he donated in full to DCM.

In his own words: "I wanted to donate to the Mission. I see the people who come and go and I wanted to do something to help those who come through the Mission. The money will help the people we serve in Derby City Mission."

Max, thank you. Your generosity, talent and kind heart mean the world to us and to the people we serve. We are so proud to have you as part of our DCM family. 💚
