We have X2 jobs available to join us on our animal management team at Duchy College, Stoke Climsland.

An animal science lecturer, teaching theory based lessons to groups of level 1-3 students.

And an animal instructor, teaching practical lessons on our animal centre.

Both roles will involve working with a wide range of animal species. 🐹🐱🐭🐷🐰

🐾 Celebrating Compassion and Dedication: The Xander Furlong Award 🐾

We are incredibly proud to announce that this year’s Xander Furlong Award has been awarded to Ryley 👏

This special award was created in memory of Xander, a much-loved student who we sadly lost last summer. Xander was the kind of person who lifted up everyone around him — kind, selfless, and deeply passionate about animals. His legacy lives on through this award, which honours a student who reflects the same compassion, commitment, and generous spirit that Xander showed every day.

Ryley has truly embodied these values, going above and beyond in their care for both animals and their peers. It was a privilege to have Xander’s mum and brothers join us at the ceremony to present the award in his honour.

🎉⚽ END OF YEAR SHOWDOWN! 🏏🎉

We wrapped up the year in true summer style with the ultimate Staff vs Students face-off — a legendary game of football AND rounders! 💪

There was laughter, dodgy tackles, questionable rounders rules... and maybe just a tiny bit of cheating.

We’re not saying the teachers definitely won... but the scoreboard mysteriously favoured us by the end 👏

Well done to our brilliant students — you gave it everything! What a way to end the year 💥☀️

We’re so proud to celebrate Aden, who has been awarded the Animal Technicians Award for being our Best Practical Student this year! 🏆🐾

Aden has truly stood out for his calm, capable, and confident approach when working with a wide range of animals. Whether handling the most nervous of species or tackling the messiest of tasks, he’s always demonstrated maturity, patience, and professionalism far beyond his years.

His ability to apply theory in practical settings, work independently, and adapt quickly in the animal unit has made him a valuable team member. Technicians and staff alike have consistently praised his attitude, reliability, and willingness to get stuck in — no matter the job.

🌟 Congratulations to Skyla – Winner of the Work Experience Award! 🌟

We’re incredibly proud to recognise Skyla for her exceptional commitment and performance during her work placement at Camelot Kennels, earning her this year’s Work Experience Student Award. 🐶💚

Her employers shared glowing praise:

"Skyla has been a great asset. She only needs to be shown something once. She shows great initiative and a great level of knowledge and understanding for someone so young in her journey. Skyla was great at offering feedback and ideas and was a good communicator." – Camelot Kennels

Skyla herself captured the heart of her experience beautifully:

"Camelot Kennels is my happy place. Keeps me sane and keeps me here. I’ve got a purpose there and I need the dogs just as much as they maybe need me."

What made Skyla’s placement truly stand out went far beyond what was written. During a visit, her employer, Dave, shared how Skyla has a natural affinity with the dogs — an uncanny understanding of each individual dog's needs, something incredibly rare and impossible to teach. After completing her tasks, Skyla would choose to spend time with individual dogs, not out of obligation but from pure care and compassion. Her dedication didn’t go unnoticed — even members of the public volunteering at the kennels remarked on her attentiveness and genuine connection with the animals.

Dave said it best: he couldn’t have asked for more.
