On Wednesday, NCFE Duchy College MaPS heads to Normandy and the D-Day landing beaches for our annual Battlefield Study 🇫🇷

This is more than a trip. It’s an opportunity for learners to stand where history was made, reflect on the courage and sacrifice of those who served, and gain a deeper understanding of the values that underpin Public Service and the Uniformed Services today.

Led by Senior Study programme manager, veteran, historian and battlefield guide Jon, learners will visit key D-Day sites, take part in acts of remembrance, and experience history through immersive activities that bring June 1944 to life.

During the week, learners will pay their respects at the American Cemetery, La Cambe German Cemetery and the Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery in Bayeux, where they will take part in a formal Act of Remembrance.

A group led by Study Programme Manager and Royal Marine Veteran “Taff” will also retrace the route of 47 Commando to Port-en-Bessin, raising funds for The RMA Royal Marines Charity and following in the footsteps of those who fought there.

A week of learning. Reflection. Remembrance.

Duchy MaPS take on the Royal Marines 30 Miler – 25 June 2026 💪🇬🇧

Following the fantastic support for the 47 Commando RM memorial walk, Taking place on the Normandy Battlefield study this Saturday, we are now getting ready for the next challenge as Duchy College Duchy MaPS NCFE learners take on the Royal Marines 30 Miler on Thursday 25 June 2026 in aid of The RMA Royal Marines Charity.

This is a tough physical and mental challenge, inspired by one of the most demanding tests in Commando training, and will see our learners push themselves to the limit through determination, resilience and teamwork.

A huge thank you to everyone who has already donated and supported our fundraising efforts so far. We smashed the target for the 47 Commando walk, and it would be brilliant if we could do the same again for this challenge.

0700hrs – Students to be in college
0715hrs – Kit check
0800hrs – Depart for Okehampton
0900hrs – Start the 30 Miler
Approx 1630–1800hrs – Finish at Shaugh Prior Bridge
Approx 1900hrs – Arrive back at College

Students can either leave from the finish line or be collected from College afterwards.

Student Success! 👏🇬🇧

A huge well done to our NCFE Level 3 Year 2 learner Amelia “Mills”, who has successfully passed British Army Selection at Army Training Centre Pirbright and is now set to join the Corps of Royal Engineers.

Not only did Amelia pass selection, she achieved an A Grade — and not just any A Grade, but one of the highest A Grades seen for quite some time. An outstanding achievement and a real credit to herself.

To make it even better, she also completed her fitness test in a fantastic time and came first. An excellent result and a reflection of the hard work, commitment and determination she has shown throughout her time with Duchy MaPS.

We are incredibly proud of her success and wish her every success as she moves forward into her Army career. Well done Mills! 💪

If you want to achieve a qualification equivalent to 3 A Levels while gaining outstanding preparation for a career in the Military and Protective Services, there is still time to apply for September for the remaining places.
