Lebanon: how politics made a nation sick.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Uak_Wl0zpRY

This short film is based on the report: the political economy of health in Lebanon. A new multi-national study led by King’s College London and partners at the University of Cambridge, and the American University of Beirut. it shows how political decisions and clientelism have had a detrimental impact on the health and wellbeing of a population.

The short film we shot over the span of few weeks highlighted clearly the many challenges Lebanon’s health care system has been facing specially in the last two years.
The massive explosion that nearly wiped out the city of Beirut, in August 2020 arrived on top of a Covid-19 induced public health crisis, an influx of refugees from the neighboring war in Syria, a drastic currency devaluation, and an economic meltdown.

"The report deserves full attention from policymakers both in government and among international donors...starting with this soundly researched and objective report, the road to recovery comes into view.” James Watt, former British Ambassador to Lebanon.

Lebanon has still not been declared a failed state despite the health system being on its last legs, half the population cannot afford to access the system and a massive man-made explosion occurred in the middle of the capital city for which no one has yet been held accountable. If that is not state failure, then state failure needs redefining!
