Celebrating the difference you make at Emmanuel.

Expanding opportunity, inspiring futures

As we publish our Impact Report for 2025, we thank our donors and supporters for their generosity across the year.

In this edition, our Outreach & Widening Participation team reflect on last year’s activities.

"Our two national initiatives, Langevity and Thomas Young Physicists, have proved successful by offering a combination of regular online engagement together with meaningful in person experiences."

Emmanuel’s outreach programmes build knowledge, skills and confidence, while opening doors to higher education.

“On behalf of the young people you have helped to reach their potential, thank you.”

Helping young people reach their potential. Thank you for your support in 2025.

Celebrating the difference you make at Emmanuel – Research spotlight.

As we publish our Impact Report for 2025, we thank our donors and supporters for their generosity across the year.

In this edition, Professor Anurag Agarwal, Dhruv Sawhney Official Fellow and Director of Studies in Engineering, talks about his ground-breaking research.

“Heart valve disease affects over 40 million people worldwide, yet it frequently goes undiagnosed. My research looks at sound as it reveals a great deal about our health. We have developed technologies to capture and interpret signals to diagnose heart valve disease early.”

“The Fellowship provides the time, infrastructure support and funding to advance this research, revealing novel insights into the future of global healthcare.”

18 Fellows were fully or partially funded by donations last year.

Who else hasn't been artistically inspired while reading? While assisting with an imaging request, our fab Library staff made this find: tiny oak leaves and acorns decorating an illuminated capital in a 14th century manuscript book of devotions 🌳

Celebrating the difference you make at Emmanuel.

As we publish our Impact Report for 2025, we thank our donors and supporters for their generosity across the year.

In this edition, third-year geographer Miles shares his passion for the great outdoors.

Spending several weeks in Switzerland studying vegetation growth after glacier retreat, he says, “Unfortunately, glaciers in many parts of the world, including the Alps, will continue to retreat for several decades. I’m interested in what comes next for these landscapes.”

Funding was crucial for Miles’ research; a modest grant enabled him to undertake this research and travel as part of his academic studies.

“Knowing I had the support of the college and those who have donated to Emmanuel was really motivating and was an added driver in ensuring I could deliver results.”

Lasting impact with academic grants. Thank you for your support in 2025.

We're so super proud of the incredible Prof Nigel Peake, who has been part of our Fellowship since 1990, and has this week been elected as Master for our friends Darwin College Cambridge 💙🩷

This pic from a few years ago represents some of his research which concerns how owls fly and hunt in silence.
From this work, his group helped develop a prototype material coating for wind turbine blades made of 3D–printed plastic, that could significantly reduce the amount of noise they make. In wind tunnel tests, the treatment reduced the noise generated by a wind turbine blade by 10dB, without any appreciable impact on aerodynamics.
