Olympic mania comes to MMLL! If you look hard, you can find a few nods to the Games in our collections: from staples like Chariots of Fire (VID.Z.HUDS.1) to studies on Catalan language and identity in the context of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics (CAT9.D.8, CAT9.D.9).👟

Or, if you’re still feeling the Tour de France fever, read about one of the precusors to the bicycle and the craze it caused in ninenteenth-century France (F9.D.242)!🚴🚴‍♀️

☀️SUMMER CLOSURES☀️

We hope you’ve been enjoying a restful summer! The MMLL Library team will also be taking a bit of a summer break, with the library closing on Friday 26th July and from Friday 2nd August - Monday 26th August inclusive.

The UL and other libraries on site will be open during this time - we recommend checking their opening hours online before setting out.

Our email address ([email protected]) will also be monitored intermittently during the closures - feel free to email us if you have a query, but do be prepared for a possible delay in response!

We look forward to welcoming you back and preparing for a new academic year from Tuesday 27th August!📚

What’s better than Tea @ 3? How about Tea @ 3 twice a week!☕️

Since it’s exam season, we’ve decided to hold Tea & Biscuits on both Wednesdays and Fridays until the end of exams. Pop by tomorrow to help us deplete our stocks of Oreos and Oatly!🍪

Taking a paper that involves film? Make sure you know all of the facilities the MMLL Library can offer you!📺🎧

- Room 224: a bookable room with a huge monitor which you can connect to your laptop, or to the DVD/Bluray player in the room to screen a film! We have extra long headphones you can use and a splitter in case you’re watching with coursemates.

- Around the library: there are 4 computers with in-built DVD drives around the library, but we also have a designated DVD/VHS screening station by the film section. A VHS player might sound unnecessary but the library actually still has almost 150 VHS tapes. Some contain rare films, and others interviews with literary figures and academics which have not been digitised!

With exams just around the corner, we’re making sure that you can easily take a break when you need it at MMLL😌

Let out any pent-up exam stress by tearing up old books / magazines and turning them into something new: we’ve got stations for collaging, blackout poetry, colouring and origami📜✂️

You also find a big Eiffel Tour jigsaw on the go in the foyer, and of course free Tea & Biscuits on Wednesdays at 3pm!

Good luck to all MMLers with oral exams this week! Once they’re over, come and celebrate by joining us for textiles and tea in the RFB!☕️

Textile artist and writer Clare Hunter will be in Cambridge on Wednesday 24 April and will join us for afternoon tea in the Lecturers’ Common Room (RFB first floor) from 3-4pm. Following her inspiring talk in March, Clare is coming to meet us in person and to chat to us about the Autoportrait en vert quilt project.

She will be on hand to see anything you’ve done so far, or chat to you about your ideas. If you feel inspired after the session, there will be plenty of materials to take away with you from the library.🧶
