…and May Week 2022 is a wrap!

We hope you all enjoyed the largest May Week Cambridge has ever seen. There has been something for everyone - from Arcade to Versailles, and Metamorphosis to Saligia. We may have had to wait Once, Twice, even Thrice Upon a Time for this May Week, but we hope you all enjoyed - especially the few Wildcards thrown in along the way.

Around the world, the past three years have been hard - however, in our little corner, countless committee members have placed countless hours of time and dedication into planning this year’s events. We thank them for their continued efforts, as we at MBPC also thank the event Presidents for the incredible work they took have done.

Thanks too go to the vendors at the events, and the production companies who facilitated these events being able to Take Flight. The work of Colleges, across a broad range of departments, allowed new and innovative ideas to happen this year.

Within all the countless moving parts, there is a group that must not be forgotten - the student workers. Essential to the smooth running of events, your efforts have been very much appreciated by events!

Hopefully, this will truly be a Summer of Love. Have a good summer, and look out for May Week committee applications in Michaelmas!

This statement aims to outline the current status of May Week 2021. The May Ball Presidents' Committee is composed of the Presidents and Chairs of all major May Week Events. Over the past year, the MBPC has been meeting to monitor the ongoing situation regarding the coronavirus pandemic, and take a coordinated approach to planning May Week Events for 2021.

Under current government restrictions, any in-person events typical of May Week are prohibited. As the situation continues to be uncertain and rapidly changing, it is impossible to predict what restrictions will look like in June. With this in mind, some May Week Committees are making tentative plans for May Week Events that may be allowed under relaxed conditions; in most cases, these events are significantly smaller in nature than past May Balls. Nevertheless, May Week committees are working hard to provide an event to mark the end of the academic year.

Over the course of the term, individual committees will be releasing more detailed information about their plans. Since each event is in a unique situation, operating on a different timeline, we ask that you are patient while you wait for these updates. In all cases, students can expect a significantly delayed ticket sales period.

The safety of University members, the wider Cambridge Community, and the general public is at the forefront of all of this planning. Events will only go ahead if they are covid-secure and compliant with council and government regulations.

An insane number of people tuned into watch our Event on Sunday night, raising almost £7000 in one night, adding to the £27,000 already raised through May Ball ticket refunds. What an achievement 🍾!

If you didn’t manage to stay awake until the FINALE of the Mega Event, it’s well worth the watch!
