Welcome to the Faculty of Economics University Open Days today and tomorrow: 7th and 8th July. The Library is offering a self-guided tour. We are the only specialist Economics Library in the UK and our students say we are, "an inspiring place to work, full of natural light, so it doesn't feel stuffy and gorgeous views across Selwyn College gardens." We have a vast range of key textbooks to support the Tripos in multiple copies. We provide access to the latest electronic journals, ebooks and electronic resources for statistical data as well as specialist live financial data via our Bloomberg and EIKON terminals. We even have a mascot, Jasper the . You may see him appearing regularly on our twitter feed . He has even been known to make celebrity appearances in the Library itself, from time to time.

Today we are hosting a visit from this year's Marshall Lecturer: Prof. Ariel Rubinstein. We will give him a tour of the Library and show him the exhibition we are hosting of his work. The Marshall Lectures take place tomorrow and Friday at 5pm in the Babbage Lecture Theatre: "Economics without prices and without games".

Marshall Society are holding Professor Ricardo Reis and his talk will take place at 6pm on 2nd March 2022 at St John’s Lightfoot Room.
"After decades lurking in the shadows, inflation is back. What was a painful but distant memory is now a new reality. What causes inflation and will be its consequences? To learn more about inflation join us for the event with a renowned macroeconomist Ricardo Reis, the A.W. Phillips Professor of Economics at LSE. Professor Reis has an extensive experience in public policy, working as an academic consultant at the Bank of England, the Riksbank, and the Federal Reserve system, as well as the Director of the Centre for Macroeconomics in the UK. Professor Reis is a prominent academic with his recent honours including the 2021 Yrjo Jahnsson medal and the 2017 BdF/TSE junior prize. His main areas of research are inflation, inflation expectations, and unconventional monetary policies. His public service includes writing a weekly column for the Portuguese press and developing European Safe Bonds (ESBies)."

The event will include a 45-minute personal address followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.

I am sorry to say that our data download limit was reached on 1st February, which, sadly means downloading Bloomberg data using the Excel plug-in on the Bloomberg machine is not now possible until March.

Please note you can access most of the same data via our Thomson Reuters EIKON Live Financial Data terminal, which can also be booked via the booking form on our website:

You can still search for data on the Bloomberg terminal and it may be possible to copy and paste some of your data into Excel but it will not be possible to download data to the Excel plug-in for the rest of the month.

When booking the EIKON and Bloomberg machines we ask you to state what data you are hoping to access and we may veto your use if you plan to download a lot of intraday data, for example, as that can cause this problem and lock everyone else out for a whole month. The data download limit is strictly enforced by Bloomberg and there is nothing the Marshall Library can do to alter this condition of our licence. It is essential to book usage of the Bloomberg machine so that we know who is using it when data limits are reached and therfore we ask you to book using the form in this email. When you arrive at the Library for your session please collect the keyboard from the Library counter before use.

The Library preserves the archives of many prominent Cambridge economists including Marshall, Pigou, Robinson and Jevons and these may be consulted by appointment. A catalogue of the Library's archival holdings is available online.

The Marshall Society is proud to host Dr. Ben Bernanke. Between 2006 and 2014, Dr. Bernanke was the Chair of the Federal Reserve. Before that, he was the Chair of the Council of Economic Advisors for President Bush as well as the Chair of Princeton's department of economics. Most of his academic research focuses on macroeconomics, especially in relation to the economic history of the Great Depression and the conduct of monetary policy.

The interview with Dr. Bernanke will take place online on November 17 at 6 pm, with the conversation being screened live in the Lightfoot Room at St. John’s College Divinity School. It will not be possible for attendees to join the online conversation directly. The event is open to Marshall members only. All interested participants are encouraged to send questions to Dr. Bernanke via email at [email protected]
