The Bartlam Library will be closing this evening at 7.30pm (last entry at 7.15pm) and will reopen tomorrow (Monday) morning at 7am.

This is absolutely, definitely, not because the library is in any way haunted, or we are expecting ghostly apparitions in amongst the bookshelves on All Hallows’ Eve… but is to allow essential works to take place. We are sorry for any inconvenience caused.

If you’re looking for a spooky watch or read for this evening, we’ve a few favourites in the general reading section of the library, and there’s plenty to choose from in the DVD collection. Happy Halloween!

We've been quiet on here for a while, though busy in the library: moving the books over the summer, getting things ready for the start of term, and running tours for new arrivals and those returning to a new library.

For more information on using the library and finding library materials, have a look at our guide: https://libguides.cam.ac.uk/SelwynCollegeLibrary

For those of you new to Selwyn, there is a page dedicated to getting started with Selwyn and other Cambridge libraries: https://libguides.cam.ac.uk/SelwynCollegeLibrary/Introduction

We hope to see you in the library soon...

We’ve really enjoyed sharing a sneak preview of the new library with you during Easter Term.

As a reminder of our plans for the summer, the current library will close at the end of Sunday 4 July and the Bartlam Library will close at the end of Sunday 11 July.

After the book move and some additional work, the Bartlam Library will reopen on Monday 2 August (subject to any necessary delays). There will be some additional furniture and equipment arriving during the long vacation, ahead of the full opening of the library before the start of Michaelmas Term.

Here’s an update from the UL on accessing books available digitally from the HathiTrust. These are books that Cambridge libraries own in print, and are being made available for temporary digital access:

Planning your vacation reading? Have a look at this practical guide to checking out a 'temporary access' title in the HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access Service collection.

HathiTrust ETAS makes it possible for current members of the University of Cambridge with a Raven password to access any print book held in Cambridge University Libraries that is available as a digitised book on HathiTrust.

This is a temporary service only available for the pandemic.

So that's one more way to access our print collections remotely this Easter. Eggcellent 🐣

If you've 45 minutes to spare during the vacation, you could have a go at improving your critical reading skills (Raven log-in required):

Here's a useful way to spend 45 minutes of the Easter vacation...

A new online 'Critical Reading' course from Cambridge University Libraries will help you improve your ability to read critically and evaluate sources.

Students at the University of Cambridge can access the 45 min Moodle course via Raven.

We’ve been quiet on here for a while, but today is World Book Day (once again), so we’d like to share three things with you:

1) A link to our guide on how to access ebooks and other resources, including all the new books and collections being bought by the ebooks and eresources teams at the UL to support your studies: https://libguides.cam.ac.uk/SelwynCollegeLibrary/AccessingResources

2) A reminder that you can join the public library (in Cambridgeshire or wherever you are at the moment) to borrow ebooks, eaudiobooks, ecomics, emagazines, enewspapers...: https://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/residents/libraries-leisure-culture/libraries/library-online

3) Some photos of the new library, to whet your appetite (no books in there for now, but there will be thousands come the summer!):
