The Margaret Beaufort Institute’s “Pope Francis Doctoral Bursary” invites applications from students from any field of current professional and or clinical practice, wishing to pursue a Professional Doctorate in Practical Theology (DProf) with a research focus on Assisted Dying within the UK context.
The successful applicant will undertake research that creatively engages sources of wisdom they identify, inclusive of their own lived spirituality, professional practice, Catholic Social Teaching and Synodality, in development of an innovative pastoral contribution engaging any of the following sectors: health and social care/ government/ the public/ faith communities.
Academic supervision will be offered by Dr. Zinia Pritchard, a Catholic contemplative practical theologian and certified spiritual care practitioner. Dr. Pritchard has navigated assisted dying within the Canadian context of Alberta Health Services (AHS) as Practice Director, Provincial Spiritual Care, and as a member of the Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) Secretariat.
