Today, Professor Jacqueline Morgan begins her role as Principal of Newnham College, University of Cambridge marking an exciting new chapter in our 155-year history.

Born in Glasgow and the first in her family to attend university, she studied at the University of Glasgow before completing a doctorate at the University of Oxford. Her appointment represents a return to Newnham, where she began her Cambridge career in 1999 as Director of Studies and College Teaching Officer in English.

For the past decade, Jacqueline has served as Senior Tutor of Clare College, Cambridge, leading on student support, bursary provision, and educational assessment, while chairing numerous University committees. She is currently on secondment from her role as Professor of Medieval English and Scots in the Faculty of English, University of Cambridge, and is widely recognised for her scholarship on Chaucer and the literature of the later Middle Ages.

Wonderful to welcome 32 young women to Newnham last weekend, all interested in studying Sciences, Technology, Mathematics, Engineering or Medicine. The University of Cambridge annual STEM Smart (Subject Mastery and Attainment Raising Tuition) programme for Year 12s is a great opportunity to find out more about these subjects and about studying with us. Huge thanks to our student Newnham Ambassadors for helping out and making everyone welcome.

🦋 Butterflies, Sunshine and 15 Minutes of Your Time

Newnham College's beautiful gardens are home to a surprising variety of butterflies and moths, and we're inviting students, staff, Fellows and visitors to help record them as part of the Butterfly Conservation Big Butterfly Count.

Led by Jerome Viard, Gardener and Lead for Wildlife & Biodiversity, Training and Education, this is a simple way to support important conservation research.

Just spend 15 minutes in the gardens counting the butterflies and day-flying moths you see. It's the perfect excuse to enjoy Newnham's gardens at their summer best and see who flies-by. 🌿☀️

As our Principal Alison Rose, prepares to leave Newnham after seven years of leadership, we're pleased to share this farewell video looking back on her time at the College.

From navigating the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic to raising £27 million to help secure Newnham's future, the video highlights some of the College's most significant milestones and the collective achievements of our community over the past seven years.
