We are shocked and appalled at the decision of the Cambridge Union to invite Israeli ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely to give a monologue on Tuesday 8th February, and legitimise her deeply racist ideology. We condemn this invitation and affirm that this far-right representative of an apartheid regime is not welcome at our university and in our city.

Hotovely has engaged in the denial of Palestinian history by calling the Nakba “an Arab lie.” She has incited violent attacks against Palestinians, claiming they are “thieves of history,” and has pushed for the expansion of racially segregated settlements. Hotovely has asserted that the entire West Bank belongs to Israelis alone: “This land is ours. All of it is ours. We did not come here to apologise for that.” She has also supported the extreme fascist group the Lehava, and argued it is important to “prevent mixed marriages.”

As members of the University of Cambridge and other institutions and societies, we write to express our dismay at the decision of the Cambridge Union to host the Israeli ambassador to the UK, Tzipi Hotovely. Please sign and share the open letter with as many people as you can to make our message clear: we stand in solidarity with the people of Palestine and declare that Tzipi Hotovely is not welcome here.

Statement of Solidarity with LSE Students

The Cambridge PalSoc joins many other Palestine Society's across the U.K. in standing in complete solidarity with the LSE students and support their right to freely protest against rightwing extremist, Tzipi Hotovely, who is better known for supporting annexation of entire Palestine, describing Nakba as an "Arab lie", bringing fascist mobs to the Knesset to campaign against mixed race couples, among many of her other equally infamous stances and disgraceful statements.

At the shameful event organised by LSESU Debate Society, she managed to further normalize anti-Palestine racism by supporting segregation advocating extremist group Lehava, and whitewashing occupation forces by claiming that the IDF - one of the worst human rights offending and international law breaking occupation forces - "never targets civilians".

The Cambridge University PalSoc also unequivocally condemn factually incorrect media smears against peaceful students and government politicians' intimidation campaigns against lawful protesters. In addition we find LSE Director, Minouche Shafik's gaslighting statement implying that the only way for minority students to challenge Hotovely's racism was by attending the event, to be utterly tone deaf, insensitive and abhorrent. We call on her to apologise and retract her statement.

We would like to reiterate LSESU Palestine Society, that racist and bigoted views should never be tolerated on campus or anywhere else, and there should never be any room for denial of Palestinian existence or Nakba.

Palestine will be free!

ISRAELI APARTHEID: A THRESHOLD CROSSED

In April 2021, Human Rights Watch released a damning report on Israel’s human rights abuses against Palestinians. The report, titled ‘A Threshold Crossed’, was authored by Omar Shakir, the Israel and Palestine Director at Human Rights Watch. We're excited to announce that Omar will be joining us on Zoom on Thursday 18th November at 18:00, to take us through the report, detailing how Israel has crossed the threshold of the crimes against humanity of apartheid and persecution against millions of Palestinians. We hope that you can join us.
