Hidden in the corners of King Henry VIII's Screen in King's College Chapel are a small, almost encrypted declaration of his love for his then Queen, Anne Boleyn who was crowned and anointed Queen of England on this day in 1533.

Owing to Anne's very short time as Queen, these carvings allow us to date the building of the screen to within less than a 3 year period. However, we would like to stress that chronological or stratigraphic accuracy is not a justification for bloody murder.

Congrats to Professor Ashley Moffett on her election to the Fellowship

Ashley is the foremost international authority on the immunology of human reproduction. Her research into placental biology has transformed our global understanding of both normal and abnormal pregnancies.

Ashley’s genetic studies have provided critical breakthroughs into the causes of major pregnancy disorders such as pre-eclampsia, the potentially fatal condition that can affect women in the later stages of pregnancy. Her work has offered vital insights into high rates of maternal mortality in Ugandan populations.

Professor Moffett has taught and trained generations of medical students and physicians both in the UK and East Africa. Her work and research continue to improve the lives of individuals across the globe. And we at King’s are incredibly proud of Ashley’s latest achievement (just one in a very long line of incredible achievements).

Ashley Moffett is Emeritus Professor of Reproductive Immunology Department of Pathology and Emeritus Fellow in Medical Sciences at King’s College, Cambridge.

Underwater bike races?

As exam term is well underway, students are preparing for exams, and some are also preparing for

However, if you were a student here in the late-1960s, you might have also spent this term preparing for the Underwater Bike Race!

If you take a close look at image 2, you'll see one student popping a physics-defying wheelie in the Cam.

This slide was recently given to us by the widow of a King's Student who studied here during the late 60s. If you know anything more about this race, please get in contact!

Which ninja turtle namesake is older than King's College Cambridge: Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael?

In the lead up to Cambridge University exams, tensions are high. There's everything to play for (if by everything you mean Dessert, Drinks, or a Full Meal).

Napoleon Bonaparte died in 1821, imprisoned by the British on the island of St Helena. This book was part of Napoleon's personal library there and, depending on how you view it, may contain his final - if very small - victory over his adversaries.

This book (M.37.116) is part of the phenomenal Rare Books collection in King's College Library. If you're interested in history, or literature or languages or music, please consider applying to King's. These books are just waiting to be studied further.

What is quantum computing and are we anywhere near seeing its roll-out?

Find out in the latest episode of our podcast; 'King's of Curiosity' 🔗 in bio

Gillian Tett's guide through the hypothetical yeses, nos and maybes of quantum is David Arvidsson-Shukur, the Senior Researcher of quantum algorithms at the Cambridge Laboratory, a Bye-Fellow at King's College and a Fellow at

David's work is at the forefront of the race to develop quantum computing which, in itself, should be of interest to many of you. However, even if you're not quite sure quantum is your thing, David's ability to communicate the complexities of quantum in a clear and simple manner really is something else.

David would also like it to be known that just because there is a tiny bit of time-travel adjacent thinking involved in quantum computing, this does not mean it will result in time travel.

Spot the difference 📞 King’s Telephone Campaign 📞

The differences in fashion (and resolution) may be pretty apparent in these 2 photos of the King’s TFC student callers 2006 and 2026. But, 20 years apart, both teams of callers share one priority: fundraising for the Supplementary Exhibition Fund.

The SEF was established 140 years ago as a vital safety net for students experiencing hardship. During the pandemic, it supported over 300 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Until 27 April our callers will be reaching out to alumni across the world to see if you can support the current and next generation of students at King’s.

Make sure you pick up the call!
