CU Aerial Arts Society strives to teach the amazing art of pole dancing to anybody who wants to learn. In the future, we are hoping to expand our repertoire to include aerial silks, lyra, and other circus skills. We are open to students and non-students of all genders, all body types, and any experience level. Pole fitness promises a unique, fun, and challenging form of exercise, an ideal alternat

ive for those of us who have never been into projectile sports or have found it difficult to stay motivated with a repetitive and monotonous fitness regimen. It is also a disabled-friendly sport and has helped many people overcome physical difficulties ranging from joint problems & hypermobility to muscle-building issues. The Vice President, Niki, suffered from a joint condition which required almost daily use of a walking stick: two years of pole later and she hasn't touched it once! Many of our classes will be focus on this fitness aspect: pole moves build upper body and core strength, and can be readily incorporated into an aerobic or anaerobic workout. Our talented instructors will gladly tailor our workout classes to any fitness level and engage with students about their individual goals. But pole is not just another workout--many from a dance or gymnastics background find pole dancing a fascinating new outlet for creative expression: as a frontier aerial art, new moves are being invented every day to challenge and inspire us. Thus, many of our classes will work on building a routine through a combination of taught choreography and exploration of our students' own personal style. Pole dance first began as a common stunt in Chinese acrobatics performances, performed almost exclusively by men due to the upper body strength required. The name has since been stigmatized, relegated to women alone, and heavily sensationalized for its supposed lewdnesss. Pole has only recently taken steps towards being recognized as a legitimate form of fitness. Our mission is the spread of this beautiful skill, which has revolutionized so many people's lives. Whether dance, strength-building, or finding empowerment interests you most, CU Aerial Arts has a place for you. Absolutely no experience needed—you will build the strength, flexibility, and endurance required!
