Southeast 8 Ball and BRT trials Debrief,
On Saturday, after being the runner up team in the last staging of Southeast 8 Ball, we unfortunately were unable to send a Kent team this year. With only Harry going, joining a team with 3 students from Imperial and 1 from Cranfield becoming team ICK. It was a short visit for Harry in the individuals, falling 3-0 to an extremely strong opponent from Essex.
Moving onto the teams, in the group stage we went undefeated beating Essex’s 1st 6-1 and UEA 2nd 6-0 to top the group and advancing into the championship. We drew Southampton 2nd in the quarter finals where after a bad performance the match went 5-5, with Sean bringing the team home in a tense final frame decider. Moving on to the semifinals we preceded to quickly move though UEA 1st with a convincing 6-0 win. Advancing to the final, we faced a strong Essex 1st where we did one better beating them 6-0 to win the team championship. Harry went 6-1 on frames in the team event individually only losing one to a breaking dish, as well as having a reverse dish along the way.
Moving onto to Sunday where we had BRT trials. In the students draw we had 4 students: Harry, Philippos, Vishnu and the return of Theo from placement. We also had Callum returning for the alumni draw. Harry, Philippos and Theo all winning 3 out of their 5 matches, including Harry beating Theo 3-1 involving a controversial loss of turn shot, placing 6th, 12th and 11th respectively. Vishnu had a tougher day winning 1 out of his 5 matches, although was close to coming though many of them, placing 24th. Callum was facing a really though alumni draw, winning 1 out of has 4 matches against some strong opponents, placing 9th. With Harry, Philippos and Theo, all making it into the BRT squads.
Overall was a strong start to the year, bring on BRT in January!!
