Pathways:
Professional Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) PCET
Professional Certificate of Education (PCE) PCET. This is a part-time, in-service course which has a requirement for a minimum of 30 hours of contact teaching in the first year and a minimum of 100 hours of contact teaching in the second year. You ar

e responsible for arranging your own teaching placement(s). Required teaching hours should be carried out between October and April in each academic year. The programme includes the following content:

• Introduction to teaching in post compulsory education
• Designing, delivering and assessing learning
• Teaching and learning strategies
• Professional development
• Curriculum design
• Context of post compulsory education and training
• Reflective Practice

The Course Team reserve the right to amend the programme to ensure compliance with professional standards. The PGCE/PCE PCET will qualify you to teach in Further and Higher Education, adult and community education, leisure and youth workers and training personnel in HM forces, industry and commerce. Students who have completed this course have gone on to part or full-time teaching in the post compulsory sector of education and training. Progression Routes:
Non-graduates successfully completing the Cert Ed (PCET) will gain 150 credits at levels 4 and 5. Learners can use these to gain advanced standing onto the BA (PCET). Graduates successfully completing the PGCE (PCET) can progress to the MA (PCET) and will also earn credits that can be put towards this MA. Applicants to the Cert Ed (PCET) should have:

A qualification at Level 3, or above in the subject they intend to teach
Applicants to the PGCE (PCET) should have:

A degree
A qualification at Level 3, or above in the subject they intend to teach

Course Length: Two years part-time

Assessment:
The programme is continually assessed through module assignments and two hundred hours of supervised teaching experience to include 130 hours of direct teaching over two years. How to Apply:

We are recruiting for the next cohort of Preparing to Teach in PCET, starting 9th September 2024.

There is also the opportunity to study for Preparing to Teach in PCET on Tuesday afternoons and evenings (2 pm - 7 pm) Tuesday 17th September 2024 - Tuesday 19th November 2024.

This 10-week preparing to teach course has been developed as a teaching toolkit offering 10 credits at Level 4. There is the option for certification at this stage which is linked to a professional requirement to undertake 20 hours of teaching in a professionally relevant situation. In addition, there is the opportunity to extend your study and progress to Part Two of either the PGCE PCET for graduates or the PCE PCET for non-graduates offered at Cardiff Met.
