For Renal Week, our students had the privilege of hearing from Sylvia Benson, a wonderful patient from Carlisle who shared her 30-year journey with end-stage renal failure and renal replacement therapy.

A massive thank you to Sally Tait University of Cumbria and Formerly for connecting us with Sylvia. Her openness, kindness, and lived experience gave our students profound lessons in compassion, communication, and long-term care that text books simply can't teach. Our future doctors were fully engaged and inspired by her insight on how to truly partner with patients.

It was a pleasure to catch up with the academic team and the students at Cumbriaโ€™s very own Medical School.

I could not be prouder that Carlisle is home to the The Pears Cumbria School of Medicine. The pioneering approach of Pears has the potential to transform healthcare in our county, by growing the pipeline of home grown doctors we need.

Good luck to the students as they enter the final few weeks of their first year. I cannot wait to see what year two and the next cohort bring ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ ๐Ÿฅ
