Andrew Stephenson CBE, Chair at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT) visited our Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle to meet with Professor Brian Webster-Henderson OBE, Deputy Vice Chancellor at University of Cumbria, Professor Mary Morrell, Head of School, Pears Cumbria School of Medicine to discuss health provision across Cumbria.

Joined by colleagues from the University of Cumbria and Pears Cumbria School of Medicine, the visit provided an opportunity to explore how collaboration across education, healthcare and policy can help strengthen the future workforce and improve health outcomes for our communities.

The PCSM Professional Services Team have been awarded the 2026 President’s Award for Excellence in Education, Supporting the Student Experience at the Imperial Staff Recognition Awards. This prestigious award reflects the team's commitment, professionalism, and dedication to ensuring students receive exceptional support throughout their journey.

Adding to an already memorable achievement, members of the team attended the official awards ceremony, where they had the opportunity to meet Imperial College London President, Professor Hugh Brady, and celebrate this well-deserved recognition.

Congratulations to every member of the team across Imperial and University of Cumbria on this fantastic accomplishment. Your passion, teamwork and commitment to excellence make a real difference to our students and are thoroughly deserving of this recognition.

A milestone moment for the first cohort of students 🩺

This week, our inaugural medical students undertook placements at Furness General Hospital for the very first time, gaining valuable hands-on clinical experience with colleagues at
University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust. As they complete their first year, it's fantastic to see learning brought to life in local healthcare settings.

We were also delighted to welcome Amy Braier, Director of the Pears Foundation, whose support helped make PCSM a reality. Her visit showcased the impact of collaboration between education, healthcare and community partners across Cumbria.

By training future doctors in the communities that need them most, we're helping to build a sustainable healthcare workforce for rural and coastal areas. 🌍💙
