"I came to Wakefield College from school to do the Multiskills Course in Motor Vehicle Studies which covered motorcycle, car and body/paint. I then progressed onto the Level 1 Light Vehicle Maintenance Course followed by the Level 1 in HGV. I changed over to HGV as I found them more interesting. I am now doing the Level 2 Diploma in HGV. I’m really enjoying the course, learning more and getting more into the workings of HGV’s. I really enjoy the Engineering unit as its more hands on and you can see what you have done. I’m hoping to go onto an apprenticeship next within the HGV industry."

"Since I was 6 years old, I always said I wanted to be a mechanic but after school I chose to go down a different route. Soon realising it wasn’t for me, I returned to my first passion and enrolled on the Level 2 HGV course at Wakefield College. My favourite part so far is stripping down the brakes to the axle and building it back up from there. The atmosphere at the college is brilliant, the tutors are great, specially to those who have just started doing the course and need advice. After this I’m going to go down the apprenticeship route, preferably working on fire engines or in a garage with a fleet."

Where could our courses take you?

Former Wakefield College motorcycle student Ryan Firbank now works for H.R.C ( Honda Racing Corporation)! What a success story!

Today, we were joined by Tom from AES UK LTD who came in to do some additional, more advanced training with our HGV apprentices. Back in August, Tom visited us to offer some updated training to our staff as well as delivering a new JOSAM Wheel alignment kit for the HGV department!

Tom and AES have really helped develop our program delivery and indeed given invaluable experiences to both our staff and learners, with industry standard equipment preparing them for employment within a bustling industry.
