We're to announce that we've received the EmilyTest Award and we're one of only two universities in England to have been awarded. 💜🤍

The EmilyTest is an important national award recognising its work to tackle gender-based violence (GBV) and was created in memory of Emily Drouet, an 18-year-old student who was subjected to a sustained campaign of GBV from a fellow student and later took her own life.

ARU is taking a university-wide approach to tackling GBV. From confidential counselling and wellbeing support to student domestic abuse ambassadors, we’re raising awareness and signposting help. Working with Sharon Livermore MBE of Domestic Abuse Education , we also deliver staff training, host events, support the White Ribbon campaign to challenge harmful attitudes and prevent violence, and have a group of trained student domestic abuse ambassadors.

💻 From CCAT to shaping the future of computing

Chris Turner, a former student of Cambridge College of Arts and Technology (CCAT) — now ARU — played a key role in the early days of the UK computer industry. Through day‑release study at CCAT alongside his work at the Cavendish Laboratory, Chris developed the practical engineering skills that would shape his career.

In 1979, Chris became Chief Engineer at Acorn, working alongside Stephen Furber and Sophie Wilson on groundbreaking technologies that later led to the development of the ARM processor — now used in billions of devices worldwide.

Chris’s story is a powerful reminder of how vocational education at CCAT helped prepare graduates to change the world. 🌍

As we mark International Nurses Day, Temitope Babajide Aluko’s story highlights the impact ARU nursing graduates continue to make across healthcare — and the vital role nurses play in shaping a fairer, more compassionate future.

Just five years after graduating, Temitope has become a standout General Practice Nurse, recognised for her commitment to patient care, leadership, and advocacy. From supporting patients with chronic conditions to mentoring fellow nurses and championing equity in the profession, her work is helping to build a more compassionate and inclusive healthcare system.

Her achievements have already earned national recognition — including a Rising Star Award and multiple honours for leadership and patient care.

Huge congratulations to one of our talented Anglia Ruskin graduates, Alice Cao, who has been awarded Book of the Year for her incredible work! 📚✨

Alice, who studied on the BA (Hons) Illustration course at ARU in Cambridge, was part of the team that received the honour at the annual British Book Design & Production Awards.

Beowulf: The Morris Edition (Books Illustrated) pays homage to the version by celebrated artist, designer, poet and writer William Morris and is limited to just 308 copies, replicating the original print run from 1895.

Combining traditional techniques with Alice’s illustrations, the book champions British craftsmanship, including paper suppliers, leathermakers and printers.

The book, which also won the Excellence in Print Production category at the awards ceremony in London, as well as the overall prize, was letterpress printed, a process now classified as endangered in the UK.

Congratulations Alice!

Alice Cao’s Beowulf illustrations help steer new edition to ‘epic’ awards success
