What a week for our Biosciences Society!

Our student-led attended the Awards where they were able to connect with other Clubs and Societies, as well as important heads from and Student Union. They got nominated for several awards, and Daniel the President walked away with the “President of the Year Award”. 🥇

Their week only got more exciting when they were joined at Park Campus by the Vice-Chancellor , and the Cheltenham MP to plant a new orchard of trees with lecturer Matt Wood! This orchard will provide free fruit for students to enjoy, and vital habitat for Park Campus’s resident birds, bugs, and bats.

Sometimes you just need to hit pause and do something extraordinary! Great to see and his pals last week. Not quite what we were planning in our anatomy and biomechanics class, but sometimes a little of what you fancy is soul food!

Check out this dung beetle diagram by Dilly Williams, completed for her Master’s dissertation in Applied Ecology at the University of Gloucestershire, and kindly shared with us.

Conservation grazing helps wildlife by providing dung, which dung beetles use for food and breeding. These beetles are also eaten by tawny owls and bats, especially as moth numbers drop.

Term is in full swing, and it’s great to hear from more students about what they’ve been up to over the summer. Mel has been burning the candle at both ends: She says “Around training for an Ironman, I get to do my dissertation research at the zoo in on this fabulous family of snow leopards. They definitely spend more time resting than I do. 🤣” 🚲 🏊 🏃‍♂️ 💪 🤪 🧑‍🎓
