Planning to go swimming in a nearby river, lake or sea to cool off?

Before you do, please take some time to ensure you're familiar with water safety and know how to react in an emergency.

Learn to float in five simple steps from RNLI:

1️⃣ Tilt your head back, submerging your ears
2️⃣ Relax and try to control your breathing
3️⃣ Move your hands and legs to help you stay afloat
4️⃣ Your legs may sink but that’s OK, everyone floats differently.
5️⃣ Practise floating in a supervised location like your local swimming pool.

If you need emergency support from the Police, Ambulance Service, Fire Service or Coastguard, please call 999 immediately. 999 should only be called for life threatening emergencies.

📚 Got any overdue or lost library books?

🙏 Good news! Our Libraries team is now running a ‘Book Amnesty’ until the end of June, so you can return any late or lost items with no fines or fees.

♻️ It’s the perfect chance to return anything you’ve borrowed, completely guilt free, and help keep the library collection available for everyone.

Last week, the University hosted its annual Showcase of Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE), where our undergraduate students had the opportunity to share their exciting research through a series of presentations and posters across a range of subjects.

👏 A huge thank you to everyone who presented their research, and to those who attended, for making it such a successful event!

👉 As a little throwback, we thought we’d share some of our favourite highlights from the event.

📝 It’s exam and final assessments season!

We know how busy and overwhelming this time of year can feel, so we wanted to share our top tips for revision success this exam season:

🎧 Reduce distractions that may affect your focus. Try leaving your phone in a different room, using time‑management apps to block certain apps, and setting realistic timers for focused study periods.

💭 Set achievable goals. Breaking your work into smaller, manageable tasks can help you stay organised and reduce feelings of being overwhelmed or burnt out.

📅 Plan and set dedicated time for revision. Creating a daily timetable can help you visualise what you want to work on and what you aim to achieve each day.

👋 Reach out to friends and family for support. It’s easy to lose track of time during exam season, so make sure to check in with your support networks. If you need additional support from the University, our Student Services teams are here to help (Visit https://shoutout.chester.ac.uk/support-and-opportunities/student-services-support-for-all-students/ for more information!)

Good luck, you’ve got this! 💪
