Heading out tonight to celebrate New Year’s Eve? 🥳

Check out our top tips below on how you can enjoy your night safely and responsibly:

🗺️ Plan your journey home – consider how you're getting home in advance. If you live near a river, remember to plan a journey home away from the water where you can. If you do plan to take a route home which runs alongside the water, please be careful and look after each other.

💸 Make sure you have enough money to get home – if you’re in Chester or Warrington and feel unsafe but have no money, you can use the “Taxi Scheme”. All you have to do is show your student card to Direct Taxis, ABBA Cars or Kings Kabs and they will invoice the University for the fare, which you repay at a later date.

🥂 Respect those who choose not to drink alcohol – alcohol isn’t for everyone and there are many reasons why someone may choose not to drink. Try to remember and respect this.

🏡 Respect your neighbours – please be mindful of how loud you’re being when walking through residential areas or one of our sites and respect the property of others. If you’re planning on having a party at home, inform your neighbours, set a reasonable end time - and try to stick to it!

💬 Seek support – some venues have medics on site so please speak to a staff member if you need help. Remember, if you feel unsafe, ask for “Angela” at the bar – the staff will discreetly call you a taxi help and support you.

There will also be a “Safe Space Van” on Eastgate Street in Chester tonight. Police and Medical Professionals will be able to help you should you need it.

The University of Chester also has partnerships with 13 “Safe Spaces” across Chester, including Sainsbury's (Watergate Street), Tesco’s (Frodsham Street & Pepper Street) and St Peter’s Church (Watergate Street) are members of this partnership. They have received training to support students who feel unsafe and need some support.

Always remember to call emergency services if you are in danger on 999.

Did you know that On April Fool's Day, 1976, the BBC announced that Pluto would soon pass behind Jupiter and reduce Earth's gravity, which would cause listeners to feel like they were floating if they jumped into the air at exactly 9:47am. It was meant as a Joke, but hundreds of people called in calming they'd felt the “Jovian-Plutonlan gravitational effect”. How funny is that?! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
