๐ŸŽ‚ Happy Birthday to us! ๐ŸŽˆ

๐ŸŽ‰ This year marks the 21st anniversary of University College Chester becoming the University of Chester, after being granted University status in 2005 by the Privy Council.

โ›ช The University's official launch took place later that year, with a procession and ceremony at Chester Cathedral, where the 6th Duke of Westminster was installed as the University's first Chancellor.

A couple who met while studying on the same degree course at the University of Chester have tied the knot in a unique charity shop-themed wedding, with the bride stunning guests in a ยฃ2 wedding dress.

Gina and Jacob Dodds, both graduates of the University's BA Popular Music Performance degree course, exchanged vows at Chester's Storyhouse arts and cultural centre, surrounded by family and friends who embraced the couple's passion for sustainability and charitable giving.

The pair, who graduated in 2016, first met as students at the University of Chester, where they formed lasting friendships and a relationship that has now culminated in marriage.

In keeping with their values, Gina purchased her wedding dress and Jacob bought the engagement ring from a Hope House Children's Hospice charity shop. Guests were also encouraged to wear outfits sourced from charity shops or second-hand retailers, helping to raise money for a range of charitable causes while reducing waste.

๐ŸŽ“ We can't wait to welcome Alumni back to their home away from home to catch up with old friends, revisit familiar places and see how the University has changed since their time here.

โ„น๏ธ Please note that reunion bookings closed earlier this month and we are unable to accept any further bookings.

๐Ÿ† Our University-run Chester Festival of Ideas has received international recognition, earning a Silver 2026 CASE Circle of Excellence Award.

๐ŸŒ The Circle of Excellence Awards are a global programme celebrating outstanding achievement in educational advancement, recognising institutions that demonstrate creativity, innovation and impact in strengthening communities and transforming lives.

The festival received the award in the Special Events (In-Person, Multi-Day Events) category and was among 493 winners selected from more than 4,000 entries submitted by institutions across 33 countries.

๐ŸŒฑ We're delighted to share that two University of Chester sustainability initiatives have been shortlisted for the Green Gown Awards 2026.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Build Back Together: Reaching the Last Mile has been recognised in the Creating Impact category for its work with the Aston Ingham community, helping to improve flood resilience through community-led action and academic collaboration.

๐Ÿต Transforming Campus Catering Through Sustainability, Inclusion and Student Partnership has been shortlisted in the Campus Health, Food and Drink category. The initiative has reduced food waste by 25%, strengthened sustainable practices and helped create a more inclusive dining experience for students throughout the University.

๐Ÿ“š Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous Alumnus, three University of Chester students have gained valuable paid work experience while helping to preserve our University Archive.

Through the Unijob scheme, Joshua, Melissa and William were employed to catalogue a collection of books, reports, journal articles and ephemera relating to arts education.

โญ Alongside making a significant contribution to the Archive, the project helped them develop skills in research, cataloguing, attention to detail and time management.

Do you have any paid part-time opportunities available within your organisation?

We're inviting employers to exhibit at the University of Chester's Part-time Jobs Fair, taking place during Welcome Week.

๐Ÿ“ Exton Park

Hosted by our Careers and Employability team, the fair gives employers the opportunity to promote paid, part-time vacancies directly to students looking for flexible work alongside their studies.

Exhibition space is free of charge, making it a great opportunity to advertise your vacancies, connect with students and strengthen your links with the University.

Places are limited and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

๐ŸŽค๐Ÿ“Š Congratulations to all our Alumni who were selected to pitch their business ideas at this year's University of Chester Venture Pitch event.

This year's competition was split up into two categories: Pre-launch and the Accelerator.

The Accelerator programme, introduced this year, saw five previous pitchers who have gone on to launch their businesses compete for a range of cash and support prizes.

๐Ÿ‘ Congratulations to Helle, Alex and Shima, who were awarded prizes in the Accelerator programme.

๐ŸŽฎ A further congratulations to Pre-Launch winners Sam and Thomas, who are currently working towards the release of their first RPG (role-playing game), SunTide.
