This week, students joined an empowering session in the Careers Hub with Issa from Issa Safe Space, exploring how our experiences, responsibilities and relationships shape who we become.

Focusing on the unique pressures often experienced by first-born daughters, Issa encouraged students to reflect on the roles they play in their families and communities, recognise the expectations they may have inherited, and consider which behaviours and beliefs they want to carry forward.

The session also provided practical guidance on setting healthy boundaries, building confidence and making decisions that stay true to their values.

Our Religious Studies students enjoyed a fascinating visit to St Paul's Cathedral, London last week, where they explored the A Dangerous Calling exhibition, marking 500 years since William Tyndale published his New Testament.

Alongside discovering the story of one of the most influential figures in religious history, students were treated to a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Cathedral. From venturing up into the eaves to viewing the magnificent ceiling from a unique lying-down perspective, the visit offered an unforgettable insight into one of London’s most iconic landmarks.

Experiences like these bring classroom learning to life, allowing students to engage directly with the history, theology and cultural heritage they study. βœ¨πŸ“šβ›ͺ

For our Year 13 English Language and Literature students, Paris isn't just a destination, it's at the heart of the texts they study.

This week, students had the opportunity to experience the city first-hand, exploring many of the iconic locations featured in their anthology. A boat trip along the Seine offered views of landmarks including the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame, before lunch in a traditional French restaurant, where some intrepid students even sampled snails for the first time! πŸ‡«πŸ‡·πŸŒ

The day concluded in Montmartre, taking in the spectacular views from SacrΓ©-CΕ“ur Basilica before returning to London on the Eurostar.

By experiencing the sights, sounds and atmosphere of Paris for themselves, students gained a deeper understanding of the places, cultures and contexts that shape the texts they study, bringing literature vividly to life beyond the classroom. πŸ“–βœ¨

πŸ’™ Meet the Teachers: Building links between parents and college

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for our Meet the Teachers event yesterday.

At SFX, we know that starting sixth form college is a significant step, not only for students but for parents and carers too. That’s why events like yesterday’s Meet the Teachers afternoon are so important, helping to build strong relationships between families and the college and ensuring parents and carers feel informed, involved and supported throughout their young person’s journey.

Hundreds of parents and carers attended the event, hearing from the Principal and senior staff, meeting teachers, and learning more about life at SFX. With the help of our legendary student ambassadors, families were guided around the campus before heading to subject areas to discuss courses, expectations and opportunities with teaching staff.

The afternoon rounded off with informal conversations over drinks and refreshments in the canteen and quad, providing another opportunity for parents, carers and staff to connect.

We look forward to continuing these valuable partnerships and welcoming parents and carers back for our Student Progress Review Evenings in the new year. πŸ’™

Our first-year Creative Practice: Art, Design and Communication students have launched their Spatial Design project with a research visit to the Serpentine Galleries Pavilion, one of the world's most prestigious architectural commissions.

The trip gave students the opportunity to experience a world-class piece of architecture first-hand, exploring how materials, structure and space come together to shape the visitor experience. Armed with sketchbooks and ideas, they gathered inspiration that will help inform their own Spatial Design projects in the weeks ahead. ✏️✨

Our Year 13 Modern Foreign Languages students enjoyed a fantastic day at UCL, taking part in taster lessons and lectures designed to give them a real insight into studying languages at university.

From experiencing university-style teaching to exploring the wide range of opportunities that language degrees can lead to, the visit encouraged students to think about their next steps and future ambitions.

Trips like this are a valuable part of the SFX experience, helping students explore different universities, broaden their horizons and discover where their A Level studies could take them next.

🌿 Rewilding London with Citizen Zoo 🦫

Our Learner Resource Centre was packed today as Pia Trevelyan-Ashby from Citizen Zoo visited SFX to share the organisation's inspiring work to restore habitats and bring wildlife back to places where it has disappeared.

Students heard about exciting projects to reintroduce species in and around London, including animals that many Londoners may never have seen in the wild before, and learned how these initiatives are helping to create a richer, more biodiverse city.

Pia also highlighted the fantastic volunteering opportunities available through Citizen Zoo, giving students the chance to gain hands-on conservation experience, develop new skills, meet like-minded people and play an active role in nature recovery.
