π Understanding the Financial Requirements for Your UK Student Visa β¨
Hello and welcome! Iβm Eldah Therone, Student Counsellor at World Student Advisors, and today Iβm sharing what every student must get right when preparing to study in the UK.
Step 1: Your Offer & CAS
Before applying, you must have:
β’ An unconditional offer
β’ A Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
Your university will issue a CAS only after verifying your finances, English proficiency, and compliance with UKVI requirements.
Step 2: Financial Evidence β Bank Statement (CRITICAL)
Your bank statement must:
β’ Be in your name or your parent/guardianβs name
β’ NOT be a business account
β’ Cover tuition balance + UKVI living costs
β’ Be held for a minimum of 28 days
β’ Be no older than 31 days at application
UKVI Living Costs:
β’ London: Β£13,761
β’ Outside London: Β£10,539
Example:
If tuition is Β£18,000 and youβve paid Β£5,000:
β’ London: Β£26,761
β’ Outside London: Β£23,539
Step 3: Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS)
β’ Β£1,035 per year for students over 18 years (e.g., Β£2,075 for 2 years)
Step 4: Visa Application Options
β’ Standard: Β£558 (~3 weeks working days)
β’ Priority: Β£1,058 (~5 working days)
β’ Super Priority: Β£1,558 (next working day)
Graduate Visa
β’ 18 months after studies (3 years for PhD)
Travel Timeline
β’ Over 6 months: arrive up to 1 month before
β’ Under 6 months: up to 1 week before
β οΈ Do not travel before your visa start date
Key Point:
Most visa refusals happen due to financial errors, not a lack of funds.
At WSA, we focus on getting this step right through proper document checks, preparation, and guidance before CAS is issued.
