What an incredible turnout for our very first Open Day at the University of Essex! Our campus was buzzing with energy, and we are immensely grateful to all the dedicated staff and student ambassadors who worked tirelessly to make the day such a massive success (not all are captured in the photo). We already can’t wait for the next one and look forward to welcoming many more prospective students to our wonderful community.

Celebrating our people is what we do best! 🎉🥳 Huge congratulations to Emeritus Professor Nigel South on winning the 2026 European Society of Criminology Award. This lifetime contribution recognises Nigel’s massive impact on criminology and we are all inspired by his contribution to our department and the wider University of Essex community. Although he could not attend the main event, the celebrations aren’t stopping there - we are so incredibly proud to celebrate his outstanding legacy back at home 🎉

What a way to wrap up the year 🎉

From an inspiring Undergraduate Student Conference—showcasing brilliant ideas, thoughtful research and confident presentations—to our Student‑Staff Summer Celebrations, it’s been a reminder of what makes our community so special.
Seeing students share their work, support each other, and then come together with staff to celebrate the year has been a real highlight. Huge congratulations to everyone who presented, organised, attended and helped make these events such a success 🙌
