History at the University of Essex

History at the University of Essex Welcome to the page for History at the University of Essex, part of the School of Philosophical, Historical and Interdisciplinary Studies.

Feel free to ask questions, post photos and events or share memories. The Department of History at the University of Essex was founded in 1972. Since then it has developed a strongly individual character. We pride ourselves on being a Department that refuses intellectual straitjackets. We enjoy the mix of areas and specialisms found along our corridors. The pattern of appointments to our Departmen

t has deliberately brought together a group of scholars with a wide range of approaches and fields: Britain, Europe, the Americas, Africa, Asia are all represented, as are the relations between them.

The Postgraduate Research Education Team are looking forward to hosting the new ResShare Event for University of Essex postgraduate researchers on 28 February (14:00 – 16:30), 5.300A + 5.300B at Wivenhoe Park.

The idea is to chat 1.1 with other postgraduate researchers about your research projects for 8 minutes, before rotating around the room to share with others. An opportunity to meet other PGRs with shared experiences without the pressure of a big presentation or making lots of smalltalk first!

After this, enjoy a presentation by an Essex Research Impact Officer and enjoy the tea, coffee and juice provided.

FILM SCREENING - 9 FEBRUARY, 6:00pm, Lakeside Theatre

Join us tomorrow for a screening of X Trillion (https://www.xtrillionfilm.com), a documentary that follows an all-women team of scientists, engineers, and educators as they sail 3,000 miles across the North Pacific Ocean to carry out cutting edge microplastics research and investigate the crisis of plastic pollution.

Followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, Eleanor Church, and a reception at Art Exchange for the PHAIS community.
