The University of Essex Debating Society aims to train students in the fine art of competitive debating. We aim to compete on a regular basis in Inter-varsity and open competitions spreading the good name of the University of Essex . We primarily, but by no means exclusively, train and compete in the British Parliamentary Format of debate but prior knowledge or experience of this style or any of t

he elements of debating aren't necessary. Regular socials are a staple of Essex Debating, ranging from drinks in Top Bar to movie nights to participation in joint-society events. Weekly debates are often competitive, engaging and enlightening. Debates are usually hosted at 7pm in LTB 1. Enthusiasm is valued over experience and knowledge, students from all disciplines welcome.
