We were delighted to host the Belfast programme of the internationally acclaimed Jaipur Literature Festival at our Belfast campus, welcoming globally recognised writers, historians, thinkers and performers for three days of inspiring conversations, cultural exchange and creativity.

Supported by the Government of Ireland and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the programme featured international voices including Shashi Tharoor, William Dalrymple and Aanchal Malhotra, alongside former Taoiseach Leo Varadkar, Belfast-born author Lucy Caldwell, Irish-Indian playwright Ursula Rani Sarma and Dublin playwright and journalist Colin Murphy.

Events like this help to showcase Belfast and Northern Ireland as vibrant international destinations for culture, creativity and student experience.

This week, our students and graduates gathered in Derry~Londonderry to work alongside academics and industry professionals from Whistling Woods International (Mumbai), Animotive (NI), and HopeFX (Mumbai) to co-create a short film — live, in real time, across cultures.

Supported by the British Council Northern Ireland’s Going Global Industry Academia Collaborative Grants, the project brings six visiting professionals from India to campus, giving students hands-on experience of intercultural co-production and emerging screen industry workflows.

"My journey at Ulster University so far has been a transformative and enriching experience. As a student of Fire and Safety Engineering, I have gained not only technical knowledge but also a deeper understanding of how safety practices play a vital role in protecting people and industries. The academic environment at Ulster has encouraged me to think critically, engage in practical learning, and apply theoretical concepts to real world situations.

Adjusting to life in the UK during my first semester was challenging and rewarding. Coming from a different educational and cultural background, I initially faced difficulties adapting to the new learning methods and independent study style. However, the support from lecturers, academic staff and fellow students helped me settle in quickly and grow more confident. This experience has also improved my communication, teamwork and problem solving skills."
