Zara McCormick, a second-year student studying Child and Family Mental Health and Wellbeing, shared her experience of studying at the Centre for Lifelong Learning.

"I am currently study Child and Family Mental Health and Wellbeing and I am in my second year. Most recently we have been learning about duty of care and how it involves not only protecting a person’s safety but also respecting their dignity, choices and emotions.

The course highlighted positive approaches to mental health including non medical interventions, which can be used to improve a person’s wellbeing and help build trust. This has equipped me with the knowledge to recognise when individuals are struggling with their mental health and respond appropriately within my duty of care. I believe this will assist me in not only my working life but my personal life also.

I would also like to add that my tutor has been extremely supportive, knowledgeable and understanding throughout this module. Recognising that mental health can be a difficult and sensitive topic to learn about and consistently took students own wellbeing into consideration during sessions, this has been the case not just for this module but for every module to date.

The University of Warwick has consistently created a safe and supportive learning environment where I have felt comfortable engaging with the content and discussions. I would highly recommend Centre for Lifelong Learning to anyone wishing to further their education and believe this is helping me to become the best version of myself."
