Founded in 2014, the Warwick China Summit (WCS) is a student-run annual conference hosted by Warwick China Development Society. The Summit aspires to bring together leading academics and professionals from across the UK to have intellectually-stimulating discussions relating to China - the largest emerging country in the world. By encouraging cultural exchanges and comparative studies, we aim to let students from all over the world learn about China’s development not only from an economic or political perspective, but also from a technological or cultural perspective. We believe that understanding is the first step to eliminate discrimination and conflict.
This year, we are expecting to host 10 guest speakers, including:
- Andrew Crainey, Associate Fellow at Chatham House,
- Qing Wang, Professor of Marketing and Innovation at Warwick Business School
- Richard Fu, Managing Director Head of Asia & Pacific at Britannia Global Markets Limited
- John Knight, Professor Emeritus of Economics at the University of Oxford
- Chirs Berry, Professor of Film Studies at King’s College of London

2020 Warwick China Summit, ‘Marco Polo in the 21st Century: When the World Meets Global China’, aims to promote the discussions and explore the solutions amid phenomena such as China’s economic slowdown and social inequality among other issues. Meanwhile, as China gradually plays an important role on the world stage, the Soft Power expansion has been noteworthy too. Consequently, the multilateral dialogue regards different cultural perspectives and world-views which are embodied within each other’s own philosophy and as a result of historical development by one’s unique circumstances shall be built between China and the West in order to better understand, and in this age of everlasting globalisation, to learn from each other’s merits for mutual progress.
