The School’s research follows many tracks, emphasising historical, international, comparative, theoretical and cross-cultural approaches. Its contextual approach encompasses criminal, commercial, corporate, environmental and human rights law. Our research underpins how we teach, leading to distinctive research-led modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) is recruiting for Trainee or Developing Lawyer roles through the SQE Pathway.

These are permanent, full-time roles based in Sheffield, with hybrid working and a minimum of three days per week in the office. The salary is career graded from £39,153 to £54,495, depending on experience and progression.

Successful candidates will support legal work across grants, subsidy control, governance, constitutional and administrative law, helping to deliver projects that support South Yorkshire’s communities, economy and public services.

Benefits include the Local Government Pension Scheme, hybrid working, up to 36 days’ annual leave, training support, flexible working options and staff discounts.

Applications must include a cover letter and be submitted through the careers portal. Please note that Skilled Worker sponsorship is not available.

Pupils from across the UK and Ireland brought creativity, confidence and plenty of laughter to Warwick Arts Centre for the School Tasking Champion of Champions Final 2026 ⚖️

Created by Dr Ali Struthers at the University of Warwick, School Tasking uses playful, Taskmaster-inspired challenges to introduce primary school pupils to law, public legal education and key legal skills such as advocacy, reasoning, teamwork and problem-solving 🧠🤝

The final was also attended by Attorney General Richard Hermer KC, who joined pupils, staff and supporters in celebrating the power of creative legal education to raise aspirations and bring the rule of law to life 👏

Huge congratulations to Elina Lin and Jonathan Martin, who represented Warwick Law School in the finals of the prestigious ESU–Essex Court Chambers National Mooting Competition 🏆

After winning their semi-final against the University of Glasgow, they faced Swansea in the grand final before an esteemed judging panel.

Warwick finished as runners-up after an outstanding performance, with both mooters awarded £750 and a mini pupillage at Essex Court Chambers. Congrats to everyone involved!

Law alumni recognised in King’s Birthday Honours 2026 👏

Congratulations to Warwick Law School alumni Professor Patrick Vernon and Professor Richard Moorhead, who have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2026.

Professor Vernon has been awarded a Knighthood for services to Racial Equality, recognising more than 30 years of work championing racial equality and social justice.

Professor Moorhead has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to legal ethics.

A huge congratulations to both Patrick and Richard on this outstanding recognition of your dedication, impact and service.
