Recommendation 4: Les Miserables by Victor Hugo

One of our Research and Academic Librarians shares: "This is the book I would take to my desert island. I have read it multiple times. It is a story of identity, moral conviction, redemption, forgiveness and love. The characters are strong and memorable set against the backdrop of revolutionary France accompanied by a plot that twists and turns. I also highly recommend the musical version (seen many times). I'm not that keen on the film. I've also visited Victor Hugo's homes in Normandy and Guernsey. I don't have the t-shirt 😊 I now need to read it again!"

After a failed poetry program, she finds herself working in PR, feeling lost and disconnected. Seeking a new direction, she discovers FortPath, a wellness retreat run by Cass, who promises healing and self-improvement. Jane grapples with her identity and the pressures of the wellness industry, ultimately questioning the authenticity of her experiences and the commodification of wellness.
