The build space is a new area of the engineering department that students are really enjoying using. There is so much on offer including 3D printers and all the workshop equipment you need to build exciting prototypes for projects or gifts for friends! It’s free to use and there are always supervisors available to help.

There's a lot of facilities available in the Engineering building, including 24/7 computer labs, electronics workshops and a build space outfitted with 3D-printers, laser cutters and plenty of other cutting edge equipment. Personally, I prefer working in the student common room as it's a relaxed environment where I can discuss problems with friends.

The first four terms (all of year one and the first third of year two) focus on general engineering, with different modules covering the various engineering specialisations. As someone who initially intended to pursue the Electronic stream, this really made a difference to me. I realised that I would much prefer the Manufacturing route and haven't regretted that choice since!

In first year you are assigned a tutor who you meet with every week. This is a great form of pastoral care to make sure everything is going well and that you are settling in. It is also used in first year to go through tutorial sheets that are set during lectures. Having the small group supervision really helps with getting a grasp on the material that is covered and allows you to ask those ‘silly questions’!

One of the main advantages of the course so far has been the various business modules offered. I’ve read many employers have cited commercial awareness as one of the key qualities lacking in university graduates; the course has definitely built up my skills in this area, helping me land an internship last summer!

Although the Engineering course has a lot of contact hours, it is still possible to get involved in clubs and societies around the university. There is so much on offer including all sorts of sports and hobbies, there really is something for everyone! Its so important to get involved and meet new people as it shapes your whole university experience.

Hi everyone, I'm Shabaab, a second year studying Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering. I'll be around for the next hour so feel free to ask me any questions about the course, Warwick or anything else you'd like to know about university life!

When it came to applying for graduate jobs, I've had quite a bit of support. For the past few years the University has put on careers fairs, including an Engineering Science and Technology fair which had people from many of the companies I was looking to apply to, as well a huge number of free pens! The university's career drop-in service looked over my cover letters and CV before I submitted my applications to tell me what needed work, and I had a mock interview which gave me some really useful feedback when I had to do it for real.

It is very easy to get involved with the School of Engineering! It supports various societies such as Engineering Society, Engineering without borders, Women's Engineering Society, Warwick Racing.
P.S. Engineering Society is recognised as the Best University Society 2018 (National Undergraduate Employability Awards)!

During open days we like to show off the big toys such as the wind tunnel, and although these are used a lot for research they do let undergrads near them on special occasions, particularly for third and fourth year projects. For my third year dissertation I ran a series of experiments in the wave flume to investigate the effect of wave steepness on overtopping of a sea wall, which kept me busy for a good week!

Like the vast majority of students, I have missed a few lectures from time to time, but it's not the end of the world. Most of my lectures are recorded via lecture capture and placed online with both the slides and sound recording, which is great when you need to catch up on something or when it comes to revision. In my experience most lecturers are good at seeing you one-on-one in their weekly office hours if you need some more in-depth guidance as well.
