Plumbing & General Maintenance
SALARY & HOURS: 37.5 hours per week up to £27,000 dependant on experience.
Main duties and responsibilities include:
We are looking for an experienced and qualified NVQ level 2 Plumber with General Maintenance experience to join a small Maintenance team carrying out routine, planned and preventative maintenance across the estate.
We are looking for a general all-rounder who has good attention to detail with a positive can-do attitude, enjoys working in a customer facing role, with a strong focus on providing excellent customer service to our staff, students and guests.
Main duties are including but not limited to:
• Carry out minor repairs such as furniture, equipment, plumbing repairs, including unblocking sinks, toilets and drains when necessary and minor repairs.
• Experience or knowledge in other trades/skillsets desirable including Heating, Electrical, Carpentry, Brickwork, Plastering, Tiling, Roofing and General Maintenance.
• General knowledge of Health and Safety legislation essential
The ideal candidate would have a flexible approach to working hours and be expected to take part in a 24hour call out rota and to also cover external events when required (for additional pay)
Person Specification:
Experience and Knowledge
• A recognised apprenticeship in mechanical and/or electrical services, (NVQ, City & Guilds Plumbing Specific) or qualified through proven significant practical experience in M&E services.
• Strong working knowledge of the Health and Safety at Work Act and other relevant legislation.
• Proven operational experience in mechanical and or electrical service maintenance and installation works.
• Proven experience of building and services repair and maintenance work.
• Proven experience of working on their own or as part of a team.
• Experience of planned and preventative maintenance programmes.
• IT skills including the use of operational databases and spreadsheets
• Ability to write reports clearly, read technical plans and be an effective communicator.
• Ability to respond and prioritise workload to meet demands and needs of the job.
• Good interpersonal skills
• Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces
• Full driving licence required to travel between sites with a significant number of tools and equipment
• Take part in out of hours call-out in line within conditions determined by the scheme.
Skills Desirable
• Practical multi-skilled experience of other maintenance/building trades.
• Experience of building services repair and maintenance work.
• Development of planned maintenance programmes.
• Recognised H&S Qualification
• Computer literate and familiar with the MS Office suite
• Record of CPD
Communication
• The ability to communicate information, orally and in writing, considering what to communicate and how best to convey the information
• The ability to communicate effectively at all levels
• IT literacy – able to communicate via email and use of handheld device/tablet
• The ability to liaise with internal and external contacts proactively and reactively beyond the Campus to build relationships, disseminate information and co-ordinate activities in a timely and effective manner
