Hot Weather Alert – Stay Safe This Week!⁠

Very warm weather is expected over the next few days (Tuesday–Thursday), with temperatures above 30°C.⁠

Please take extra care and follow these simple tips:⁠
⁠
💧 Stay hydrated – bring a water bottle and drink regularly⁠
🌳 Keep cool – use shaded or cooler areas, especially between 11:00–15:00⁠
🧢 Protect yourself from the sun – wear sunscreen, hats and light clothing⁠
😵 Look out for signs of heat illness – such as dizziness, headaches or feeling very tired⁠
🏃 Take it easy – avoid strenuous activity where possible⁠
⁠
If you feel unwell, tell a member of staff immediately.⁠

🎬 Following her passion for film

Media student Tilly Wild is loving life at Derby College Group, where she’s studying for her Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media at the Joseph Wright Centre.

With a passion for filmmaking and a love of the practical side of the course, Tilly is gaining hands-on experience with professional equipment while building her skills.

After discovering her interest in media at school, she’s now looking ahead to university and a future in filmmaking 🎥✨

What an incredible day at Broomfield Hall! 🦉

Our Animal Care and Management students had the opportunity to work alongside the fantastic team from BB Falconry, gaining hands-on experience with a range of magnificent birds of prey.

From learning about husbandry and handling techniques to watching these incredible birds in flight, the sessions gave students a valuable insight into the skills and knowledge required to care for and work with these remarkable animals.

🦁🎓 A proud moment for Derby College Group apprentices!

Students have graduated from the Chester Zoo apprenticeship programme after two years of hands-on learning, with 78% achieving Distinction and many now securing roles at the zoo.

From international study trips to major conservation projects, this programme is helping develop the next generation of animal care professionals.

🌍✈️ From zoo visits to courtrooms and global employers, Derby College Group A-level students are set to bring learning to life during Project Week.

With trips to places like Twycross Zoo, RAF Cosford and the University of Derby, plus employer visits and careers sessions, students will gain real-world experience across the East Midlands and beyond.

Yesterday we held our Parents & Carers Transition Event, where our SEND and Learning Support team were able to talk about the support we provide to supported CYP and their parents & carers.

The event also included a networking event where attendees could speak to all our support areas and a truly inspirational speech from a students who has themselves benefitted from such support.

We want to thank everybody who attended, and we hope that you found it useful and look forward to welcoming you all as part of the Derby College community 💙
