Last week, secondary school pupils from across Dumfries and Galloway joined our Envirolab Summer School to explore the Solway Coast with our Environmental Science and Sustainability lecturers. 🌊🔬

The group investigated the distribution and abundance of marine flora and fauna, with a particular focus on gastropod molluscs such as whelks and limpets, gaining hands-on experience of fieldwork and coastal ecology.

And, after a busy day of scientific discovery, they enjoyed a well-deserved ice cream! 🍦

Some campuses are simply places to study… ours is something a little different. 💙

From the air, you can truly appreciate what makes our Dumfries Campus so special. The Rutherford McCowan Building sits at the heart of a campus surrounded by beautiful green spaces, historic architecture and our flourishing Teaching Garden.

Whether you're taking a break between lectures, enjoying a walk around the Crichton Campus or getting hands-on in the garden, there's always something to appreciate here.

We think it's one of Scotland's most beautiful places to learn. What do you think? 👇

Thank you to for allowing us to share this amazing footage.

The University of Glasgow is pleased to announce the launch of our Dumfries Civic Grant Fund, offering community groups, charities and local projects based in Dumfries the chance to apply for grants of up to £5,000. The Fund is now open for applications, and closes at midnight on Sunday 14 June 2026.

The support is being provided by the University of Glasgow as the anchor academic institution through our Dumfries Campus. This is part of the University’s broader efforts to renew and target our outreach activity in Dumfries beyond our existing campus offering, and expanding our role as a civic and innovation partner in the south of Scotland. This Civic Grant fund is being run alongside a broader suite of research and innovation interventions.

We are looking for project proposals from a broad range of ideas that can lead to tangible social, civic, sustainable skill development or community benefit to those in Dumfries.

Examples of projects eligible for funding may cover:

Equality, diversity and inclusion focused initiatives
Health, wellbeing and fitness/sport
Sustainability and climate change
Food poverty
Arts, heritage, and culture
Education, and outreach
Finance/debt advice
Any group set up to represent underrepresented groups in society or special interest groups
Community spaces
