What makes St John’s special?

From life on the Bailey beside Durham Cathedral to music, sport, friendship and meals together, John’s is a small and welcoming community where people quickly get to know one another by name.

The John’s Chad's Photographic Competition was initiated and continues to be generously supported by Richard Roberts, St John's alumnus and great friend of both Colleges.

With over 140 entries this year, the judges were faced with some tough decisions. The vibrancy of life at really shone through but St John's took the overall win for the highest scoring JCR across all of its entries. Which means a £750 boost for the SJCR!

We are pleased to share the individual John's winners Congratulations!

The colours of our new visual identity are inspired by the buildings, symbols and traditions that make St John's distinctive.

At its heart is a timeless, deep navy blue, alongside a vibrant highlight red, drawn from the historic College crest and long associated with student life at John's.

The wider palette takes inspiration from the sandstone and brick of our historic buildings, the heraldic colours found across College, and the rich blues, reds and golds that appear in the stained-glass windows of the Chapel.

Together, they create a visual identity rooted in place, community and heritage, while looking confidently to the future.
