The Institute for Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies within the School of Government and International Affairs is at the forefront of Middle Eastern studies, teaching and research in Britain. The foundation of this is Durham University's long legacy of teaching Islamic studies and social scientific studies of the region. This page brings you news of the latest events and research initiatives relat
ed to the Middle East at Durham University's School of Government and International Affairs. At IMEIS, we are the only Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)-recognised Middle East and Islamic studies department in the country, which means that we offer the highest level of research training and subject-specific supervision and teaching. We are a multidisciplinary department and our staff combine a wide range of skills and knowledge of languages and the economy, politics, history and culture of the Middle East region. We maintain links with many institutions both in the Middle East and worldwide and have a distinguished list of Honorary Fellows. Our multidisciplinary nature is reinforced by close collaboration with other departments in Durham University that have Middle Eastern expertise.
