Durham Theology Society is a community of people sharing a mutual interest in Theology and the Study of Religion, providing a forum for discussion in a relaxed social setting. Whether or not you study Theology or Religion, this is a chance to explore the fundamental questions of life in a friendly, good-humoured and non-pressurised atmosphere. We’re non-faith specific, non-denominational, and non-

dogmatic. We want to ensure that lively theological discussion is facilitated in Durham, whether over a glass of wine, through regular updates on our page, or in formal debate. During the course of the year, we will be running a series of debates, trips and social events, not least our annual summer ball. Look out for our regular Tea-ology sessions - a chance for relaxed tea-loving discussion with staff and students! This Society provides a rare space in which Durhamites of many different faiths and backgrounds can unite in exploring those existential and anthropological questions which impact the way we view the world. Membership in £5/year, £10/life, £15/eternal*

*No posthumous refunds.

We realise that faith is a subject very central to many people’s lives. We also realise that theology touches upon many subjects that people will find personal. Durham Theology Society aims to be a safe and friendly forum for the exploration of all systems of belief, and all issues related to those systems. As such, there will inevitably be a risk of offence involved both on this forum and in any activity run by the society. We wish to encourage a plurality of voices, and this inevitably will lead to disagreements. However, we also wish to make everybody feel equally comfortable in participating in our events. In order to facilitate open discussion without alienating people, Durham University Theology Society operates a 'Safe Space' policy. We request that all comments on this forum and at our events remain polite and considerate of others’ feelings, and that, in return, all viewpoints will be treated with a spirit of charity. Don’t forget that we will be hosting our talk by Revd. Dr. Peter Phillips at 6pm (BST) today! The link to the Zoom meeting can be found on our Facebook event or in our Instagram bio. We would like to ask that all viewers mute themselves during the talk and only unmute themselves if they are asking a question at the end to avoid background noise and feedback. TheoSoc Love 💕

With exams slowly coming to their end, we wanted to fill the Theology-shaped hole that is about to be in your lives.
So we've teamed up with members of the Theology Department to provide some exciting Zoom talks this June! (You might be especially excited for a couple if you're a fan of sci-fi!)
We will provide more details over the following week.
Please continue to stay safe! TheoSoc Love 💕

It is not too late to apply for a role on the Theology Society Exec. Being a member of an exec is an absolutely brilliant way to gain desirable skills and experience. Check out our posts about the roles on offer, which include President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary, Social and Charities Officer, Academic Officer, and Publicity Officer.

Due to the current situation, we will be hosting our AGM over Zoom, and our voting will be accessible online.

To apply for a role, you will need to write a manifesto of approximately 150 words and email it to [email protected] This will be read out at the AGM which you are strongly encouraged to attend if you can. We understand, however, that you might be unable and that is fine.

If you have any specific questions about the roles or how to apply, do not hesitate to contact us, either on Facebook, Instagram () or via email.

Our AGM is scheduled for 6th May at 1pm (BST) and we hope as many of you as possible can make it. Good luck to everyone who has applied so far and we hope to see more applications in the next few days!

Today we're releasing our last three roles that you can apply for. The first of which is our Academic Officer, Lucy. She had a lot to say so the rest is continued here:
Potential future ideas could include the introduction of a mentor scheme to help first years settle in. This role is perfect for anyone with a passion for Theology - you definitely do not need to be a theology student!
