Our Story

Durham University Electric Motorsport (DUEM) design, build, and race solar cars. DUEM are currently building our most ambitious car yet, ‘Ortus’, for entry into the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in 2019. In October 2017 we raced our solar car, DUSC, 3000 km across the Australian continent.

DUEM was formed by the merger of the Durham Formula Student & solar car teams, separate until 2012. More than 50 undergraduate and post-grad students are involved in the team, with specialties in vehicle dynamics, electronics, aerodynamics, all working to design a green, efficient car. The team is entirely funded by sponsorship with dedicated business, PR & marketing teams working hard to ensure we attract the funding necessary to bring the cars from our imagination to the road. In order to promote ourselves to the public and potential sponsors, we have presented at events such as the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the London Motor Show. We are also a founding member of the World Alliance for Efficient Solutions. Finally, an active outreach team brings the team’s work to schools across the county, to educate and inspire the next generation.

DUEM would like to thank all of their sponsors for their continued commitment. If you are interested in sponsoring the team, please feel free to contact us directly (via [email protected] or simply via this page).
