Our Level 2 Carpentry and Joinery students recently worked with Beamish Museum to restore a historic livestock trailer!

The restoration of the livestock trailer is now the second major project our Carpentry and Joinery students have completed in support of the museum. The project allowed our students to make a real contribution towards preserving the heritage of the North East.

A huge well done to all involved! πŸ‘

🌟 Proud moments at Langley Park Care Home! 🌟

Our Health and Social Care students visited Langley Park Care Home as part of their placement experience, and we couldn't be prouder of the impact they made.

As part of the visit, students led and facilitated immersive VR experiences for residents using virtual reality headsets, giving residents the opportunity to explore new places and experiences in a safe and enjoyable way. Our students showed confidence whilst putting their skills into action, demonstrating how innovative technology can enhance wellbeing within care settings 🀍

A huge thank you to the team at Langley Park Care Home for their continued support and partnership. We look forward to returning in the new academic year with even more digital technology and VR experiences!

Meet Lucy, a Supported Internship student, here at New College Durham ✨

During her supported internship at Hiyed, Lucy had the amazing opportunity to visit Youth Parliament, representing students who currently study or have previously studied a supported internship. Lucy was able to contribute to the discussion of the impact and future of supported internships. Discussions like these have helped Lucy grow, and she is 'over the moon' to have developed her confidence and independence skills.

A supported internship gives learners with additional needs hands-on experience in a working environment, helping them discover their strengths and broaden their future opportunities.

Lucy would like to give a special thanks to her job coaches, who have helped her to thrive within her role, so much so, she hopes to continue working with Hiyed! ⭐

First year T-Level and BTEC Business students recently visited Beamish Museum, to gain insight into how a successful visitor attraction operates as a business πŸš‚

The visit focused on event management and the importance of health and safety within the industry. Our students gained valuable real-world insight into business operations, customer experience, and the planning involved in running large-scale attractions and events.

As an added bonus, the students also enjoyed some traditional fish and chips, as well as a trip to the sweet shop 🍬

What a fantastic day of learning outside the classroom!
