๐Ÿšจ New RECOVER Guidelines Are Here!

What should you do when a dog or cat has an emergency before you can reach the veterinary hospital?

The RECOVER First Aid Guidelines provide evidence- and consensus-based recommendations to help recognize emergencies and provide appropriate first aid when minutes matter.

From heatstroke and choking to burns, toxin ingestion, and severe bleeding, these guidelines give veterinary teams practical tools to help prepare the people caring for animals outside the hospital.

Huge congratulations again Alisha!! ๐Ÿ’š

Huge congratulations again Alisha!! ๐Ÿ’š

Please join us (again!) in congratulating Alisha, who has just passed her final nursing exams and is officially a qualified veterinary nurse.

Student Veterinary Nurses have two routes they can take to qualify. One is the university route, in which you study at uni and then are sent on placements to see practice. The other is the college route, in which you go to college one day a week and then work in practice for the rest.

The majority of our students take the college route. They study for 3 years, completing exams and assignments as they go. They also have a thorough nursing log to complete along the way, to demonstrate their competence. All whilst working (often full time). They are supported by a clinical coach (in our practice this is one of our registered nurses).

At the very end of all of this, they then have a professional discussion to pass and then they can (finally!) take their OSCE's (the final practical exam).

Alisha has absolutely smashed this last exam and we are very proud of her and her clinical coach Alex, who has supported her all the way.

She will soon be added to the register of veterinary nurses in the UK and will be able to use the post-nominals RVN.

Well done Alisha, we knew you could do it and cannot wait to see you in your greens!

Keep up the great work Meg!!

๐ŸŒŸ โ€“ Meet Meg! ๐ŸŒŸ

This week we're shining the spotlight on Meg! ๐Ÿพ

Meg joined us in 2020, and her passion and dedication to animal care have been clear from day one. That commitment paid off when she qualified as a Veterinary Nurse last year โ€“ a fantastic achievement! ๐ŸŽ“๐Ÿ’™

As if that wasn't impressive enough, Meg was also recognised nationally, winning the AMTRA Student of the Year Award ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ‘

When she's not caring for animals at work, Meg is kept busy at home by her own furry companions, Miley ๐Ÿถ and Bubbles ๐Ÿˆ, who are never far from the action!

Congratulations on all your achievements, Meg, and thank you for everything you do for our patients, clients, and team. ๐ŸŒŸ

Do you work with a Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA)? ๐Ÿ“ข

At BVNA, we're currently gathering feedback from VCAs to help us better understand their role and what support they would value in the future.

If you have a VCA colleague or team member, we'd really appreciate it if you could share this survey with them. The survey takes around 5โ€“8 minutes to complete, and every response will help us build a better understanding of the VCA community.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Find out more and complete the survey here; https://loom.ly/4Bcqwyo

Thank you for helping us reach as many VCAs as possible! ๐Ÿ’š
